Class 2A and 3A at Pittston Area, 7 p.m.

Just a few hours later, the bracket was revised, and for the first time in tournament history nine teams will battle for the district title.

In the bracket released earlier in the day, an error did not have Abington Heights in the tourney. Instead of removing a team, the District 2 committee decided to place the Comets (10-11) in their rightful spot as the No. 3 seed from the Lackawanna League. Therefore, West Scranton (9-8) and Berwick (17-9), the wild cards from each league, will square off in a pigtail match to decide which team advances to the quarterfinals.

The preliminary dual will be held at 5 p.m. at Pittston Area on Friday. Also at that time, two other mats will be set up consisting of first-round matches between Hazleton Area (9-1) versus Honesdale (8-4) and Abington Heights against Pittston Area (13-4).

The remaining quarterfinal bouts will begin at 6:30 p.m. with Scranton (10-3) facing off with Coughlin (8-2) and the winner of the preliminary bout going against Delaware Valley (7-5).

“The committee made an error is calculating Abington’s league record. That necessitated making changes in the pairings,” said District 2 Class 2A Tournament Director and district committee member Tom Williams.

The Class 2A event will be held at Lake-Lehman on Friday, also beginning at 5 p.m. with the original eight teams.

The 2A tournament kicks off with Western Wayne (11-2) versus Wyoming Area (4-11) and Valley View against Dallas (10-7).

The quarters, which are slated for 6:30 p.m., pit Hanover Area (11-8) against Scranton Prep (7-7) and Meyers (11-15) against Elk Lake (18-6).

The quarterfinal winners of both tournaments advance to the semifinals, slated for 8 p.m. Friday at the respective location. Both classes will come together at 7 p.m.Saturday at Pittston Area where the finals will run simultaneously.

In the event of inclement weather this weekend, an announcement will be made accordingly.
