Wasnetsky qualifies for NCAA cross country

Chris Wasnetsky of the University of Scranton finished eighth Saturday in the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III East Regional to earn a return trip to the national men's cross country championships next week in Cleveland.

Wasnetsky, a junior from Bishop O'Hara, ran the 8K course in 25:19.2.

A total of 45 teams competed in the event at Lehigh University.

Wasnetsky finished 96th out of 278 runners at nationals in Indiana last year. He joins three-time qualifier Joe Fent and two-time qualifier Chris Heaton as the only Scranton men's runners to make it to nationals more than once.

For more details on this event, see next weekend's Scranton Edition of the Times Leader.
