The second annual “Pink Night” girls basketball game between Abington Heights High School and Scranton Preparatory School was a smashing success, raising more than $7,200 to benefit breast cancer awareness, according to organizers.

Jamie Montella, shown above, finished with six points in the Lady Comets 43-39 win over Scranton Prep on Thursday, Feb. 4. She followed that by scoring 14 points in the Lady Comets 55-25 win over Wallenpaupack on Monday, Feb. 8.
Held at the Saint Francis Xavier Center at Scranton Prep on the evening of Feb. 4, this year’s game featured the theme of “Hoops for Hope.” With both teams wearing commemorative pink jerseys, and playing in front of a crowd decked out in pink T-shirts and other pink apparel, the Lady Comets defeat the host Classics, 43-39, in a Lackawanna League Division I contest. While winning the game was an important objective for both teams, the funds raised by the event will contribute greatly to the increased awareness of breast health among teenage and young adult women, according to event organizer Margo Opsasnick.
“We are now able to write a check to the Northeast Regional Cancer Institute for $7,200- this definitely raises the bar when the game goes back to Abington heights next year,” Opsasnick said of the event. “Everyone had a great deal of fun for a tremendous cause.”
“This was much, much bigger than just basketball.”
