Casey Vance has been a member of the Abington Heights High School Band since her freshman year. This year, she auditioned for the position of Miss Comet and won.

Now 16, she moved to Clarks Green from Los Angeles, Ca. with her family, when she was 10. Soon after arriving in the area, she began twirling with the Double R Twirlettes under the direction of Kathleen Yankovich Mercatili. With the Double R Twirlettes, Vance has twirled on a Royal Caribbean cruise to Bermuda and a Carnival cruise to Canada. The group has also performed at New York City’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade, Atlantic City’s Miss America Pageant Parade, Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom and New Jersey’s Six Flags Great Adventure.

Vance has also played the violin since she was 10 and is a member of the Abington Heights High School orchestra. Additionally, she is involved in singing, acting, modeling and a few varieties of dancing, including ballet, jazz and hula. A graduate of the Barbizon School of Modeling, she is under contract with D-and-D Talent/Modeling Management.

A year ago, Vance began competing in pageants, which has enabled her to take her love for performing to the stage. Besides the performing aspect, she said she enjoys pageants because she makes many good friends while attending. Vance presently holds the title of Miss Pennsylvania Teen and will compete this month with girls from other states for the title of Miss Teen America.

Delegates are judged on volunteer community service, scholastic achievement, leadership, extracurricular involvement, community interaction, essay, verbal expression, poise, talent, physical fitness and appearance. Each contestant has a platform, and Vance focuses on anorexia awareness and prevention in young adults.

She has been a member of the Abington Heights High School Band since freshman year. Being Miss Comet takes a lot of time, as she must attend numerous practices and leads other majorettes through routines in practices and performances. Vance said she has garnered confidence in herself from performing, and it is what she loves to do.
