Eight BMT churches will host ‘Celebration of Community’

Eight Back Mountain Churches will host a public event entitled “Celebration of Community - A Community Celebration,” at 1:30 p.m. today, Nov. 1, at the Old Noxen School in Noxen.

The Noxen Volunteer Chorus, under the direction of Emily Steltz, will present several selections. Speakers will include Cathie Pauley, Ronald Hopfer and The Rev. Gregory Myers.

Pauley, president of the Noxen Historical Association and building manager of the Old Noxen School, will give the history of Noxen and the history of the school. Mary Hopfer will speak on the history of the Community Development Corporation of Noxen, Ruggles and Kunkle. Rev. Myers is the District Superintendent for the Wilkes-Barre District of the United Methodist Church.

Tours of the school and the services available through the Community Development Corporation will be given. These include the Schenk Library, the Clothes Closet, the “Pastor’s Pantry” (Food Pantry) and a Power Point presentation of the summer work camp project. Refreshments will also be served.

The day will conclude with an opportunity to remember loved ones who have died in the past year.

The United Methodist Churches sponsoring this event are Noxen, Kunkle, Ruggles, Loyalville, Huntsville, Alderson, Maple Grove, and Lehman-Idetown.
