The 24th annual celebration of Arts at Hayfield’s Summer Festival will take place on Sunday, Aug. 24, on the Penn State Wilkes-Barre campus in Lehman.
This year’s activities include the popular juried craft show with more than 110 crafters and artisans, a wide variety of entertainment and activities for adults and children, a delicious variety of festival foods and, for the first time, a Pump and 5K-Run Contest.
The festival runs from the gate opening at 10 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Registration for the Pump and Run starts at 9 a.m. A yearly highlight of the scholarship fundraiser is the tour of Hayfield House which will draw heightened interest this year following a recent investigation into paranormal activity in the mansion. Guided tours will be conducted throughout the 30,000 square foot former summer home of John and Bertha Conyngham at 11 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 3 p.m.
While the tours are free, the popularity of them has prompted the issuing of tickets so that tour groups can be held to convenient numbers as people move through the house. The complimentary tickets, coded for specific tour time, will be available in the tent just in front of Hayfield House. Officials recommend those planning to take the tour secure their tickets upon arrival to the festival.
