Back Mountain Memorial Library children, tweens and teens are invited to come to the Children’s Room during regular hours beginning Tuesday, Oct. 20 and design and color an 8-inch by 8-inch square representing the child’s heritage or the heritage of his or her town, family home or family heirlooms. The squares will be tied together with colorful ribbons to create a small quilt.
Every library in the Luzerne County Libraries System will complete a quilt that will be hung in various areas of the Wachovia Arena in celebration of the arena’s 10th birthday. Each quilt will reflect symbols, people or things representative of our heritage or “melting pot.”
There will be 24 squares available on a first-come basis. Patrons should come prepared with a design in mind. There will be markers available for drawing and coloring. All squares must be completed in the library and identified.
The first library that completes its quilt will be asked to take part in a presentation at the official birthday celebration on November 8. So discuss your designs with your parents or teachers and come to the library beginning Monday, Oct.19.
