October 18

Haunted Library attraction continues through Oct. 30

If you are feeling brave and looking for a chance to prove your courage, either as a participant or an observer, the Back Mountain Memorial Library has two ideas for you!

Plan now to visit this year’s Haunted Library, which will continue today, Oct. 18; next weekend on Friday, Oct. 23; Saturday, Oct. 24; and Sunday, Oct. 25 and (an extra day this year) on Friday, Oct. 30. The Haunted Library will accept guests from 6:30 to 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and from 5 to 9 p.m. on Sundays.

The theme of “Night Frights” is based on an original story of a sleepover and what happens when teenagers have trouble falling asleep. Although it is geared toward older visitors, the event can always be scaled down for each individual group. Younger children are given the option to carry a small tap light to increase their bravery.

A donation of $6 is requested for each person. (Psst! A $1 off coupon is available at the front desk of the library.) There will also be an outside dance performance throughout the night and food will be available at the refreshment stand.

You may call the library at 675-1182 for more information. The library is located at 96 Huntsville Rd., Dallas.

Circus tickets available

If you prefer to just watch “chills and thrills” from the comfort of your seat, the library is offering your children a chance to attend the upcoming Ringling Bros., Barnum & Bailey Circus for free!

Simply have your little ones read a circus book from now until October 23 and fill out the name of the book and other information on a form in the library. Children will then receive a voucher to be redeemed at the Wachovia Arena for a free ticket to the 7 p.m. performance on Friday, Oct. 30. The voucher must be redeemed at the arena by October 27. Hurry in as there is a limited number of vouchers available.

Hold your donations

Because of the Haunted Library and its “creatures,” we are unable to accept any book or odd ’n ends donations until after November 2.

Bookshops closed

The Slightly Read Bookshop and the Paperback Room are now closed for the remainder of October. However, a selection of both hardcover and paperback books is always available for purchase upstairs in the library. The Bookshop and Paperback Room will resume their regular hours on Wednesday, Nov. 4, with a half-price sale on VHS movies and all audio CDs and tapes.
