Kunigonis honored by VA, recognized by Legion

Marion Kunigonis, a member of the Dallas American Legion Auxiliary for 43 years, was recently congratulated by Commander Clarence J. Michael for her outstanding contributions to Post 672 and for her award from the VA. The Auxiliary Hospital Representative for the Northeastern Region of the VA, Kunigonis was honored for her outstanding volunteer service at the VA on April 23. She has devoted over 8,750 hours in the past 25 years at the VA in various roles as holding coffee hours, bingo parties, running the Christmas Gift Shop and speaking out for veterans on many occasions.

Country line dancing classes offered

Country line dancing classes are held from 7 to 9 p.m. every Thursday at the Harveys Lake American Legion. Admission is $3 per person.

Chicken bar-b-que slated at Noxen Fire Co.

The Noxen Volunteer Fire Company will hold a Chicken Bar-B-Que from noon to 4 p.m. today, May 3, at the fire hall on Stull Road, Noxen.

Price is $7 per dinner. Take-outs will be available.

Cemetery Assn. meeting set

The annual meeting of the Chestnut Grove Cemetery Association will be held at 2 p.m. today, May 3, at the Loyalville United Methodist church.

Ambulance Assn. to meet on Wednesday

The annual meeting of the Franklin and Northmoreland Township Ambulance Association will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 6, at the Franklin Township Fire Hall, Orange.

Alzheimer’s group meets May 7

The Dallas Alzheimer’s Support Group will meet at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 7, in the board room of the Meadows Nursing Center, 55 W. Center Hill Rd., Dallas.

‘Jekyll & Hyde’ at Music Box starts Friday

“Jekyll & Hyde: The Musical” will be presented by the Music Box Repertory Company May 8-10, 14-17 and 21-24 at the Music Box Dinner Playhouse, 196 Hughes St., Swoyersville.

Curtain time is 8 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays and 3 p.m. on Sundays. A buffet dinner is served 90 minutes before curtain.

Tickets are on sale for dinner and show and show-only with discounted prices available for senior citizens, students and children. For reservations, call 283-2195.

Fire company plans ham dinner

The Sweet Valley Volunteer Fire Company will hold a family-style ham dinner from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 9, with takeouts beginning at 4 p.m.

Cost is $8 for adults, $4 for children between the ages of 6 and 11 and free for children under the age of 6.

Controller candidate plans breakfast event

Walter L Griffith Jr., candidate for Luzerne County Controller, will hold a “Meet the Candidate for Breakfast” at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 16, at Pickett’s Charge Restaurant, 64 E Center Hill Rd., Dallas.

BMT Scouts involved in blood drive

Junior Girl Scout Troop 4829 will hold a blood drive from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, May 17, at St. Maria Goretti Church, Laflin Road, Laflin.

Adriana Weslowski, a student at Gate of Heaven School, and Kennedy Jordan Straitiff, a student at Dallas Middle School, and other members of the troop are attempting to earn their Bronze Award, the highest award to be earned in Junior Scouting.

Memorial Service slated for Jackson Twp.

The annual Memorial Service of the Jackson Township Fire Department will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 23, at the fire hall, 1160 Chase Rd.
