DHF ’ugly ducking’ thanks ’swans’ for making event a success

Dear Editor:

There is a humorous, yet telling, phrase in management and leadership that it is better to be an ugly duckling surrounded by swans, than a swan surrounded by ugly ducklings.

As the ugly duckling in an unsung, undetectable group of very talented people, I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the “swans” of the Dallas Harvest Festival Steering Committee. For months, these dedicated, caring community members skillfully planned and conducted another successful festival, hosting an annual event for over 4,000 people in the Back Mountain community.

My thanks to the “swans” who volunteered their time and tremendous talents while coordinating a myriad of preparatory tasks and coordinated efforts. They were the ones making the calls to exhibitors, reaching out for sponsors, placing ads and preparing the settings for a weekend of activities and events that culminated with the Sixth Annual Dallas Harvest Festival.

All along, their purpose was to create a meaningful occasion that brings the community together one time each year in celebration, along with community togetherness and pride. They certainly accomplished that again this year.

There are so many to thank for such an outstanding community event. In addition to those on the Dallas Harvest Festival Steering Committee, I would like to thank the sponsors who generously support this event, the exhibitors and vendors, the college volunteers, the Dallas Borough staff and many businesses and organizations in the community who contribute in various ways.

Without such community support, this event could not be so successful and significant.

For now, however, my sincere thanks to the swans who surrounded this ugly duckling, the swans of the Dallas Harvest Festival Steering Committee. Thank you!

Let’s do it again next year!
