HARVEYS LAKE – Preparing for the new year, borough council adopted a 2010 budget of just over $1 million and bid farewell to three council members and the mayor during Tuesday night’s meeting.
Attorney Charles D. McCormick read through the new spending plan, revealing no changes were made to the proposed budget. Taxes to support the budget remain the same as this year.
The property tax millage rate of .604 will carry through, as will the $5 per capita tax and the real estate transfer and earned income tax rates of one-half of 1 percent each. A mill is $1 in tax for every $1,000 in assessed property value.
The new budget holds no changes from 2009. McCormick said the 2010 budget is available for residents to review in the municipal office during regular business hours.
The new year also brings in new council members and a new mayor. In preparation for the change and to honor those departing, McCormick presented the outgoing officials with four wooden clocks with plaques noting the officials’ years of service to the Harveys Lake community.
One by one, McCormick handed out awards to Lawrence Lucarino for eight years of council service, Betty Jane West for 12 years of council service, Edward Kelly for 24 years of council service and Richard Boice for 26 years of service as council member and mayor.
In other business, a motion to approve Pasonick Engineering of Wilkes-Barre as an alternate engineer for the borough was passed.
