KINGSTON TWP. -- Supervisors on Wednesday delayed a vote to approve a pedestrian crosswalk from the Center Street Park to the ambulance garage until the October meeting.
The crosswalk would assist youth football and soccer players as they cross the road to get sporting equipment stored in a shed near the ambulance garage, the board said.
Code Enforcement Officer Bill Eck asked if the shed could be relocated to the park, which would eliminate the need for the crosswalk. Board member John Solinsky agreed the shed shouldn’t be near the ambulance garage.
“What if you have an entire football team putting equipment away and getting in the way of an ambulance?” he said.
The board agreed to include the park property in the fall road inspection, scheduled for Sept. 18, to determine if there is a suitable space for the shed and make a decision at the October meeting. Board Chairman Dave Brodhead said whether or not the shed is moved, the crosswalk is still a good idea because children cross the road to use the vending machines located at the ambulance garage.
He also said free-standing pedestrian crossing signs, which are also located on North Main Street in Wilkes-Barre, near King’s College and River Street in Forty Fort and in other areas, are provided at no cost from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
In another matter, Audrey Simpson of Green Road said blasting from nearby Slocum Estates has caused her garage floor to crack. She said she has made several phone calls to the developers but has not gotten a response back.
She asked the board for help in the matter. Township Solicitor Ben Jones told Simpson that the issue is a civil matter and advised her to seek legal counsel.
