Lake-Lehman postpones decision on Ross design

CAMILLE FIOTI Times Leader Correspondent

LEHMAN TWP. – The Lake-Lehman School Board Thursday night postponed a decision on a design for the expansion of Ross Elementary School.

At the meeting, a continuation of Monday’s session, the board voted to lease a 24-foot-by-72-foot modular classroom, which would immediately address the school’s overcrowding issue.

The modular will be divided in half to make two classrooms, with a total of 1,728 square feet of classroom space. The cost for delivery and installation of the unit, which will be leased from Vanguard Modular Systems in Manheim, is $15,900, with monthly rental payments of $679.

No one on the board has actually seen the unit, but Superintendent James McGovern said he would make the trip to the distributor today to inspect it before it is delivered.

A Ross Township resident, who asked not to be named, asked the board if a feasibility study would be done for the entire district to project future expansion needs. She expressed relief that the board didn’t vote on which design scheme to go with for the Ross expansion.

“I’m glad you didn’t vote on that,” she said. “There’s an awful lot of information to compile. We want to make sure there’s room to grow.”

McGovern agreed that a feasibility study on the entire district should be done, but pointed out that the need to expand Ross is eminent.

“No matter what we do, Ross still needs to grow.”

In other business, the board:

• Voted to accept Anita Kerkowski as English Department chair for the 2008-2009 school year at a stipend of $2,019. All clearances are on file.

• Appointed Justin Mazur as junior high cross-country coach for the 2008-2009 school year, at a stipend of $555, pending receipt of clearances.
