LAKE TWP – The township’s proposed 2010 budget is prepared and contains no tax increase, continuing a 35-year tradition.
Secretary Carlene Price said the $317,881 proposed budget is comparable to this year’s and the millage rate of .322 is the equivalent to the present 9 mills. The mill rate is $1 for every $1,000 assessed tax value.
While the rate is much lower, it is equivalent to the past rate when applied to new property assessments.
“The tax rate has been the same since 1975,” Price said.
Other components of the budget that will stay the same are: the $5 per capita tax, a one-half of 1 percent real estate tax and one-half of 1 percent earned income tax.
The budget is $131,000 less than last year. Price explained last year’s total included $100,000 from a Community Development Block Grant that was used to resurface Loyalville Road.
Also, less money will be received from the state for the liquid fuels fund. The township is expecting $78,660 in 2010, Price said, compared to $81,875 in 2009.
Price said he was told the reduction in liquid fuels money was the result of lower gas prices.
“I was told the township would not need as much,” she said.
Money from the liquid fuels fund goes toward road maintenance, vehicle fuel and payroll for the road crew.
Current work on Wesley Road may be postponed until next year depending on the weather, Price said. The resurfacing and construction line item for 2010 is $99,600.
Price said supervisors have no major purchases or projects planned in the 2010 proposed budget.
The proposed budget is on the agenda for adoption at next month’s regular supervisors’ meeting scheduled for 7 p.m. on Dec. 9, in the municipal building.
The budget is available for viewing during regular office hours, 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays in the municipal building.
