JACKSON TOWNSHIP

Supervisors approved two resolutions which may result in reimbursement of funds used for snow removal and gave an update on the progress of the recycling center at their regular meeting Monday night.
Two resolutions regarding the two recent winter storms on February 10 and 25 were approved.
Attorney Jeffery Malak said the resolutions are a preliminary measure needed to apply for possible funds through the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency. He said if PEMA releases funds due to the declared state of emergency, the township would need the resolutions in place before applying.
The possible funds could reimburse the township for part of the cost of snow removal. Malak said he does not know if funds will be available but the supervisors are being prepared if the opportunity arises.
The resolution indicate that the storms were declared a state of emergency and caused damage and endangered the welfare of residents.
Chairman John Wilkes Jr. was pleased to announce previous problems of household trash and other items being mixed in with recyclables areimproving.
“The problem is rectifying itself,” he said.
Last month the township’s free recycling program was in jeopardy due to people dumping non-recyclable debris in with recyclables.
Wilkes said residents are being more mindful and also attributes the change to moving security cameras for better viewing of recycling dumpsters during non-business hours. Wilkes said flyers on proper recycling procedures will be distributed to residents again.
In other news, supervisors authorized Northmoreland Township to participate in the LAG municipal auction planned for April 10.
The next supervisors meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday, April 5, in the municipal building.
