Ross Twp. to get less from state

EILEEN GODIN Times Leader Correspondent

ROSS TWP. – With preparation of next year’s budget on the horizon, supervisors said Tuesday they learned the township’s liquid fuels funds for 2010 would be reduced.

Secretary Terry Davis read a letter from the state notifying the supervisors their allocation of liquid fuels funds would be $106,317, compared to $110,000 this year.

“The amount mentioned in the letter is only an estimate of what we might receive,” she said. “Sometimes when the money is released to us, it is even less than what was initially quoted.”

The calculation used to determine how much a municipality receives in liquid fuel funds is based on the mileage of township roads, Chairman Stanford Davis said. Records show the township has 33.65 miles of township roads, he said.

Davis said the money from liquid fuels taxes goes to pay for township road maintenance, vehicles’ fuel and payroll for the road crew.

“Some municipalities use it to purchase anti-skid,” Davis said.

With the budget on their mind, supervisors will begin work on the 2010 budget soon. Davis said that by mid-November the proposed budget should be available for residents to look at in the municipal building.

It will then be reviewed and adopted at the end-of-year meeting at 3 p.m. Dec. 28.

In other business, Lake-Lehman High School senior Kyle LeValley asked supervisors for permission to build an 8-by-8-foot shed to be placed at the Ross Township Recreational Park baseball field.

The project is LeValley’s senior project. Supervisors approved his request.

The next supervisors meeting will be at 7 p.m. Dec. 1 in the municipal building.
