Septic tank approval near completion

Supervisors announced an ongoing alternative septic tank approval is near completion and discussed purchasing a roller through the COSTARS program during Tuesday night’s meeting.

For several months, Ross Township resident Barry Andrew, owner of a property consisting of three apartments and one store front on Main Road, has waited approval for an alternative replacement to his septic system.

The problem was the lot is too small to install a standard size septic tank so, when the existing tank failed to operate correctly, a completely new septic system design had to be approved by the Department of Environmental Protection, Andrew and the township.

Chairman Stanford Davis said alternate sewer enforcement officer John Bellas added a few amendments to the agreement. Davis said the agreement will then be passed on to township solicitor Attorney David Lipka for review and finally go to Andrew for his signature.

In other news, supervisors discussed purchasing a pull behind road roller costing $39,861. The purchase is through the state run COSTARS program. COSTARS is a cooperative purchasing program by the Department of General Service in Harrisburg.

Chairman Stanford Davis said about $40,000 was budgeted for the purchase and supervisor David Williams said he would like to hold off on the purchase until the frost is out of the ground.

“I would like to wait and see how the roads are after the frost is gone,” Williams said.

Supervisor William Ferrey agreed. He said the supervisors should wait and see what kind of road maintenance may be needed. The decision was tabled until the weather breaks.

The next supervisors meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 6, in the municipal building.
