LIUMC schedules August service times

The Lehman-Idetown United Methodist Church hours for the month of August will be 8:30 and 10 a.m. The 8:30 a.m. service is informal and includes Holy Communion.

Sunday School for all ages will begin again at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 7.

Church plans retreat

The Sweet Valley Church of Christ will host a “Ladies Retreat” August 22 and 23 at Camp Epachiseca in Stillwater. The theme for the weekend is “Becoming the Woman God Wants You to Be” with main speaker Audrey Brosious.

Registation donation is $$20 which includes all meals, sleepover and workshops. For registration forms or more information, log on to www.campepachiseca.com.

Chicken dinner slated

A Chicken Bar-B-Q dinner will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 22, at the Noxen United Methodist Church, Route 29. Ticket price of $8 includes everything. Take-outs will be available.

Chicken BBQ at Maple Grove UM Church

Maple Grove United Methodist Church, 5876 Main Road, Sweet Valley (one-fourth of a mile from Sheldon’s Lunch, Route 118), will hold its annual chicken barbeque from 4 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23. The menu includes half a chicken, baked potato, corn-on-the cob, cole slaw, cake and beverage. Tickets are available from members or at the door. The cost is $8 for adults and $3.50 for children. Youth group plans gift auction

The youth group of the Lehman-Idetown United Methodist Church will hold a “New and Re-Gifting Auction” as its fundraising project following the 10 a.m. worship service on Sunday, Aug. 24.

Parishioners are asked to take new or slightly-used items to the back of the church by August 20. Refreshments will be served at the auction.

Rally planned at Grace Church

A Youth and Family Rally with Rand Hummel will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 5; at 4 and 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 6; and 9:45 and 11 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 7, at the Grace Community Church on Memorial Highway in Dallas.

Dr. James Rand Hummel, a native of Orangeville, is an American author, preacher and camp administrator. He has worked for many years at The Wilds Christian Camp/Conference Center in Brevard, North Carolina.

Day of Reflection set at St. Therese’s

Father James J. Paisley, pastor, and the Altar and Rosary Society of St. Therese’s Church in Shavertown, will host Sister Therese of the Capuchin sisters of Nazareth for a “Day of Reflection for Women” at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 7, in the church. Her topic will be “The Vocation of Women in the Church.”

Benediction and Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament will also be offered.
