Pumpkin carving contest set

The Jackson Township Police Department and the Jackson Township Board of Supervisors will sponsor their Fifth Annual Pumpkin Carving and Coloring Contest and Emergency Services Day from 1 to 4 p.m. today, Oct. 25, at the Jackson Township Recreation Park and Pavilion at the Jackson Township Municipal Building, 2211 Huntsville Rd.

There will be food, games and emergency services equipment on display. There will also be a hayride in the park and General Jackson’s World Famous Chili.

Pumpkin carving and coloring awards will be held at 3:30 p.m.

Monday Night Bingo scheduled

Monday Night Bingo will be held on October 26 at the Northmoreland Twp. Vol. Fire Co., Demunds Road, Centermoreland.

Doors open at 5 p.m. Refreshments will be available.

Music Box sets auditions

The Music Box Repertory Company will hold auditions for “A Christmas Carol” on Tuesday, Oct. 27, and Wednesday, Oct. 28, at the Music Box Dinner Playhouse, 196 Hughes St. Swoyersville.

All roles are open. Performance dates are Nov. 28, 29, Dec. 3-6, 10-13 and 17-20.

Auditions for children ages 8-17 will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and from 8 to 10 p.m. for adults ages 18 and over. Those interested in a speaking role will be asked to read from the script.

Haunted House at county fairgrounds

“Brokenharts Asylum,” a high-tech, high-scare haunted house, will be open every Friday, Saturday and Sunday through October, as well as Thursday, Oct. 29, and Sunday, Nov. 1, at the Luzerne County Fairgrounds, Route 118, Dallas.

This is a self-guided walk-through haunted house featuring animatronics, specially-trained scare actors and brand new scenes.

The project benefits Harveys Lake Fire and Ambulance. For more information, call 760-8027.

Jazz concert slated at MU

Misericordia University is presenting the cool jazz sounds of the Rich Goldstein/Andy LaVerne Quartet at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 29, at Walsh Hall. The concert is free and open to the public.

‘Rocky Horror’ musical at Music Box

“The Rocky Horror Show” musical by Richard O’Brien will be presented by the Music Box Repertory Company at 7:30 p.m. on October 30 and 31 at the Music Box Dinner Playhouse, 196 Hughes St., Swoyersville. Midnight shows will be held on October 30 and 31.

Chicken and biscuit dinner set

The Dallas Chapter Easter Star Building Association will hold a chicken and biscuit dinner from 4:30 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct, 30, at the Eastern Star Hall, Foster Street, Dallas.

Tickets, at $7.50 for adults and $4 for children, will be sold at the door. The Eastern Star’s famous Welsh cookies will be available for purchase.

Soup orders being taken

To pre-order chicken noodle and vegetable beef soup at $4.50 a quart from the Eastern Star Building Association, call Peg Berti at 675-7247 or Dianne Corby at 675-4893 by October 30.

Alzheimer’s Support Group will meet

The Dallas Alzheimer’s Support Group meeting will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 5, in the board room of the Meadows Nursing Center, 55 W. Center Hill Rd, Dallas.

Alice Russomano, the new coordinator of Apprise, the State Health Assistance Program for Medicare Beneficiaries, will speak about changes in Medicare for 2010.

Contra Dance slated

A New England Contra Dance sponsored by the Chicory House and the Folklore Society, featuring the music of the Contra rebels and caller Ted Crane, will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7, at the Church of Christ Uniting, Sprague Avenue, Kingston.

No partner or previous experience is necessary. Admission to the dance is $9 for adults and $24 for families. For more information, call 333-4007.

Scouts plan spaghetti dinner

Boy Scout Troop 518 will hold a spaghetti dinner from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7, in Father Nallin Hall Hall behind Nativity B.V.M. Church, 99 E. Tioga St., Tunkhannock.

Cost is $6 for adults and free for children ages 5 and under. Takeouts will be available starting at 5:30 p.m.

Bluegrass Jam slated

A Bluegrass Jam will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7, at the Old Noxen School. All bands are welcomed. Food and refreshments will be available.

The event is sponsored by the Noxen Historical Community Assoc., Inc. and all proceeds benefit the Noxen School Building Project.

NBLT program set

North Branch Land Trust (NBLT) Naturalist Rick Koval will present an informative program entitled “Native Orchids of Luzerne County” at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 11, at the Land Trust offices, 11 Carverton Rd, Trucksville (across from Pizza Perfect).

Program fees for the general public are $5 for adults, $2 for children 12 years and under. NBLT members are free. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Craft sale planned

The 17th Annual Dallas Chapter Eastern Star Building Association Craft Sale will be held from 9 a .m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 14, in the Eastern Star Building, Foster Street and Woodlawn Avenue, Dallas.

Eastern Star members will serve lunch, featuring homemade soups. Welsh cookies will also be available for order.

Library Friends holding fruit sale

The Friends of the Back Mountain Memorial Library are sponsoring a fresh citrus fruit sale through November 16. Gift boxes of fruit are available with all proceeds going to benefit the library.

Order forms have been mailed to regular customers and new customers are invited to stop by the library at 96 Huntsville Rd., Dallas.

Pre-paid fruit sale orders may be picked up at the library from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 4, and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 5.
