Legion plans Veterans Day ceremony

Dallas American Daddow-Isaacs Post 672 will hold its traditional Veterans Day Ceremony on at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 11.

Commander Joe Kelley will be the speaker and Reverend William Lewis will act as Chaplain. All members of the Legion and members of the general public are invited to attend.

NBLT program set

North Branch Land Trust (NBLT) Naturalist Rick Koval will present an informative program entitled “Native Orchids of Luzerne County” at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 11, at the Land Trust offices, 11 Carverton Rd, Trucksville (across from Pizza Perfect).

Koval will illustrate the beauty and exquisiteness of the native orchids of Luzerne County through his photography. His PowerPoint program will showcase at least 24 species along with hybrids, varieties and orchid look-a-likes.

Program fees for the general public are $5 for adults, $2 for children 12 years and under. NBLT members are free. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Civil War Round Table announces speaker

John Heiser will be the guest speaker for the Wyoming Valley Civil War Round Table at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 12, at the Daddow Isaacs American Legion, Route 415, Dallas. He will speak on “The Great Reunion of 1913.”

The program is open to the public.

Legion will meet

Dallas Daddow-Isaacs American Legion Post will conduct its monthly meeting on Friday, Nov. 13 when the annual pig roast will be discussed.

Commander Joe Kelley will preside.

Craft sale planned

The 17th Annual Dallas Chapter Eastern Star Building Association Craft Sale will be held from 9 a .m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 14, in the Eastern Star building, Foster Street and Woodlawn Avenue, Dallas.

Eastern Star members will serve lunch featuring homemade soups. Welsh cookies will also be available for order.

Fire company plans ham dinner

The Sweet Valley Volunteer Fire Co. will hold a family style ham dinner from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 14. Take-outs begin at 4 p.m.

Cost is $8 for adults, $4 for children between the ages of 6 and 11 and free for children under the age of 6.

Breakfast buffet planned

The Noxen Volunteer Fire Co. will hold a breakfast buffet from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 15, at the fire hall, Stull Road.

Price is $7 for adults and $4 for children under 12 years of age.

Meadows notes 25th anniversary

The Meadows Nursing and Rehabilitation Center Auxiliary invites the public to celebrate the center’s 25th anniversary from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 15, at the center, 55 W. Center Hill Rd., Dallas.

There will be refreshments, tours and an awards program.

Library Friends hold fruit sale

The Friends of the Back Mountain Memorial Library are sponsoring a fresh citrus fruit sale through November 16. Gift boxes of fruit are available with all proceeds going to benefit the library.

Order forms have been mailed to regular customers and new customers are invited to stop by the library at 96 Huntsville Rd., Dallas to pick one up.

Prepaid fruit sale orders may be picked up at the library from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 4, and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 5.

Zen Meditation rogram scheduled

An Introduction to Zen Meditation will be held from 7:30 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 17,at Mercy Center on the campus of Misericordia University.

The program includes a description of Zen meditation, a short practice period and time for questions.

A free will offering will beaccepted and pre-registration required by calling Sr. Barbara Craig at 675-1872.

Bus trip benefits breast cancer research

A one-day bus trip to New York City will be held on Saturday, Nov. 21, to raise money for breast cancer research.

The bus will depart from Wegman’s in Wilkes Barre at 7:30 a.m. and will leave New York around 7:30 p.m..

Tickets are$30. A fundraising auction will be held on the bus en route to the city. All monies raised will go directly to the American Cancer Society’s breast cancer research fund.
