PEOPLE BRIEFS

Lindsey Harger, of Dallas, has been recognized by the United States Achievement Academy as a student of excellence in Foreign Language.

A Dallas High School student, Harger was nominated for this honor by Candyce Fike, a French teacher at the school, and will appear in the USAA’s Official Yearbook which is published nationally.

Harger is the daughter of Lisa Perugino, of Dallas and Wayne Harger, of Luzerne. Her grandparents are David and Margaret Evans, of Kingston, and Raymond and June Harger, of Luzerne. She is also the great-granddaughter of Leo McManus, of Kingston.

Sonday receives Stewardship Honor

Ann Sonday, of Dallas, was recently named a recipient of the annual Stewardship Honor at Trinity Episcopal Church in West Pittston. The annual honor is presented to members of the parish who provide strong witness to the Christian concept of “stewardship as a way of life," offering a consistent, positive, presence by sharing time, talent and treasure in support of the common good of the local parish, the parish’s mission "to live and build holy community" and the work of the larger Church.

Former resident wins awards at fiesta

David Hage, of Wilkes-Barre, formerly of Dallas, recently won both first and second place in sculpture at Wilkes-Barre’s 52nd Annual Fine Arts Fiesta. This year’s juror was David Klevinsky of Wilkes-Barre.

Hage won awards for two pieces titled “Jesus and Two Thieves” and “Those Who Can’t Tie Knots Tie Lots.” The pieces are from Hage’s ongoing series Things Found (Out). This series of found object assemblages was born out of David’s appreciation for the inherent value and interest found in discarded objects. Some of Hage’s recycled material comes from his grandfather’s barn. To date, Hage has recycled over 350 pounds of discarded materials.

Hage currently serves as the gallery coordinator and exhibitions curator for Paper Kite Gallery in Kingston. He is also a writer and graphic designer for The Independent magazine and a graphic and web designer for Resource Media, a branding and creative design studio.
