Air Force Reserve Airman 1st Class Joseph T. Yanik, son of Glenn and Marianne Yanik, of Dorchester Drive, Dallas, graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

Yanik graduated in 1999 from Bishop O’Reilly High School and received a bachelor’s degree in 2004 from Temple University.

Tanner graduates from basic training

Army Pvt. Michael A. Tanner, son of Jay and Frances Tanner, of Winding Way, Dallas, has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

He is a 2000 graduate of Bishop O’Reilly High School.

Two named to dean’s list

Sheena Koher, of Noxen, and Mary Novack, of Tunkhannock, have been named to the dean’s list at the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Ga. for the spring 2009 quarter.

Kocher is an advertising design major seeking a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Novack is a painting major seeking a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.

Three inducted into honor society

The United Honor Societies of Luzerne County Community College recently held an induction ceremony at the College’s Educational Conference Center.

Back Mountain residents among the 77 students inducted into Psi Beta, the national honor society in psychology for community and junior colleges, are Amy Spess, Shavertown; Kayla Chappell, Hunlock Creek; and Sarah Slody, Chase.

Solomon named to President’s List at LCCC

James Solomon, son of Harry and Dawn Traver, Noxen, has been named to the President’s List at Luzerne County Community College for the spring 2009 semester.

Solomon also received recognition from The United Honor Societies of Luzerne County Community College by being inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society. Phi Theta Kappa membership is extended to students who have completed 12 credit hours of course work leading to a degree in which they have a GPA of 3.5 or higher.

Solomon is currently working at Tobyhanna Army Depot this summer through the college’s Student Career Experience Program (SCEP).

Brennan graduates from Seton University

Ann Brennan, of Dallas, received a Master of Arts in English in May 2009 from Seton Hall University.

Horwatt named to dean’s list

Morgan Horwatt, of Dallas, has been named to the dean’s list at Paul Smith’s College for the spring 2009 semester.

Horwatt is enrolled in the college’s Division of Hospitality, Resort and Culinary Management and earned a semester average of 3.3 or higher to receive this distinction.
