SCHOOL BRIEFS
Misericordia University will dedicate its newest facility, the Monsignor Andrew J. McGowan Student Residence Hall, at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 22. Monsignor John Bendik will perform the blessing. The public is invited to attend the ceremony.
The building bears the name of Monsignor McGowan, a Misericordia Trustee and Trustee Emeritus who provided leadership, dedication and humor throughout more than 25 years of valuable service to the campus. Monsignor embodied the spirit of the Religious Sisters of Mercy, the founders and sponsors of Misericordia, and their tenets of mercy, service, justice and hospitality.
The first residence hall constructed on campus since 1994, the $5.9 million McGowan Hall opened in March and serves as home to 116 students.
The Lake-Lehman Junior/Senior High School will host an Open House August 26-28. This yearly event allows seventh, eighth and ninth-grade students to try lockers, locate rooms and become familiar with the layout of the school. Information pertinent to the Open House will be mailed home shortly before. Students must bring this information with them on the day they choose to visit the school.
Students and parents are welcome to attend according to the following schedule: 9 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 26; 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 27; and 1 to 3 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 28.
Kingston High School Class of 1959 will hold its annual summer get together from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 30, at the Appletree Terrace, Newberry Estates, Dallas.
The cost is $25 which includes brunch. Reservations must be made by August 17 to either John Bonczewswi, 18 Elm St. Edwardsville, PA 18704 or Jayne Haefele, 124 Idetown Rd, Dallas, PA 18612.
The Dallas High School Class of 1968 will hold its 40th anniversary reunion Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 5-7. A mixer will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 5, at Joe’s Grotto, Harveys Lake. The Dallas Senior High School Farewell Tour will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 6.
The reunion evening will be held at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 6, at the Huntsville Golf Club. Appetizers and drinks (cash bar) will be served on the veranda at 6 p.m. after which classmates will assemble at 7:15 p.m. on the side lawn for the 40th anniversary reunion photograph. A barbeque of steak, chicken, salads and more will be served at 7:30 p.m.
