Jazz concert planned for MU

Misericordia University is presenting the cool jazz sounds of the Rich Goldstein/Andy LaVerne Quartet at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 4, in Lemmond Theater at Walsh Hall. The concert is free and open to the public.

Peace Prize nominee to speak at MU

Kathleen Kelly, co-coordinator of Voice for Creative Nonviolence and internationally-respected peace activist who has been nominated three times for the Nobel Peace Prize, will talk about her global peace efforts during a special lecture at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 5, in Sandy and Marlene Insalaco Hall, rooms 217-218, on the campus of Misericordia University.

Native American program set for PSU

Frank LittleBear, a First Nation Native American lecturer, performing artist and musician will present two shows on Thursday, Nov. 5, at Penn State Wilkes-Barr to celebrate Native American History Month. The first show will be at noon in the Student Commons and the second is set for 7 p.m. in Hayfield House Community Room.

Seminary sets Open House

Wyoming Seminary Lower School invites families to attend the Preschool, Pre-K and Kindergarten Open House from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 5, at the school’s Forty Fort campus, 1560 Wyoming Avenue.

Families may tour preschool, pre-kindergarten and kindergarten classrooms and speak with the dean of the Primary Division, teachers and admission staff about Sem’s early childhood program.

Book fair benefits MU library

Friends of the Mary Kintz Bevevino Library and Barnes and Noble have teamed up to host a book fair to benefit the Misericordia University library from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7, at the Arena Hub Plaza store in Wilkes-Barre Township.

Anyone who presents a special Misericordia/Barnes and Noble book fair voucher during the event will have a percentage of their net sale donated to the Mary Kintz Bevevino Library by Barnes and Noble.

Vouchers are available by stopping in or calling the Misericordia library at (570) 674-6225. They will also be available upon request at the Friends of the Bevevino Library table in the store on the day of the event.

Chefs dinner benefits school

The American Culinary Federation Professional Chefs of Northeastern PA will hold its 21st Annual Progressive Dinner at 6 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 9, at Bentley’s Entertainment Complex, Ashley. Tickets may be purchased for $125 per person by calling 675-7003.

Proceeds from the event will benefit Wyoming Valley Children’s Association, a nonprofit agency that provides therapy for children with developmental disabilities.
