OBITUARIES

CHAPELONIS - Mary, 93, of Dallas, died Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Domicella and Vito Balice.

Surviving, in addition to her daughter, Domicella, are another daughter, Louise Slusser; one grandson; numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

GERMAN - Lydia M., 94, of Dallas, died Thursday, March 26, 2009 at her home.

Born in Pittston, she is survived by sons, Carl, Rochester, N.Y.; and Tom, Dallas; one grandson; one great-granddaughter.

LOUGHNEY - Joseph Michael, 77, of Hobe Sound, Fla. and Harveys Lake, died Saturday, March 21, 2009.

Born Aug. 2, 1931 in Pittston, he attended St. John the Evangelist High School and graduated in 1949. He was a Golden Graduate of The University of Scranton, Class of 1954.

After graduation, he relocated to Wilmington, Del. and started his 40-year career with DuPont Pigments, working in the laboratory and eventually moving to sales in Wayne, N.J. There, he was a Eucharistic minister, lector and choral member at Our Lady of Consolation Church.

Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Ann (Matt) Loughney, of Duryea; children, Margaret Mathewson, of Dallas; Kevin Loughney, of Clinton, N.J.; Kathleen Barkelew, of Pleasant Hill, Calif.; Karen Steiniger, of Long Valley, N.J.; Julie Carty, of Harveys Lake; and JoAnn Cawley, of Oreland, Pa.; 16 grandchildren; siblings, Thomas, Gerald, Captain Juel Ann, Sr. Carol, IHM; and Robert; nieces and nephews.

Memorial donations to the American Diabetic Association.

MIHALCHIK - George David, 34, of Shavertown, died Saturday, March 28, 2009.

Born June 20, 1974, he was a 1992 graduate of Coughlin High School and of Temple University with a degree in civil engineering in 1997. He was employed by Borton-Lawson Engineering of Wilkes-Barre as a civil engineer.

Surviving are his parents, George Mihalchik and Cletta (Downs) Salavantis; stepfather, Harry Salavantis, Shavertown; paternal grandmother, Margaret Mihalchik, Hanover Township; sisters, Jennifer Pollick, Ambria Salavantis-Kramer and Stefanie Salavantis, all of Shavertown; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and cousins.

TEMPLIN - Thomas M., 84, of Dallas, died Sunday, March 29, 2009 at his home.

Born in Shamokin, he attended Dallas schools and was a graduate of West Pittston High School. Before retiring, he was a foreman for Natona Mills, Dallas.

He was an Army veteran during World War II, serving as a member of Darby’s Rangers. He attended the Huntsville Christian Church and was a member of Daddow-Isaacs American Legion Post 672, Dallas.

Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Marian Stark Templin; sons, Robert L., Tunkhannock; and William T., South Carolina; daughters, Cheryl Ashton, Dalton; Debra Lewis, Shavertown; brother, Ralph, Denver, Colo.; sister, Mary Reese, Dallas; six grandchildren.

WIN - Dr. Norman, “Doc,” 68, formerly of Trucksville, died March 22, 2009 at his home in Orlando, Fla.

Born August 9, 1940, he attended Swoyersville High, Class of 1958. He was a veteran, having served four years in the Army.

Upon returning from the service in 1964, he attended Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. In 1968, he returned to the area and opened his chiropractic office that served the Wilkes-Barre community for more than 35 years. His last employment was Sea World in Orlando, Fla..

He was also a member of the Trucksville Fire Department.

Surviving are his wife, Tobie, of Orlando, Fla.; son, Brian, of Exeter; daughter, Tammy Bozyk, of Peoria, Ariz.; three grandchildren; many aunts and uncles.
