OBITUARIES

DICKINSON - J. Louise, 92, of Dallas, died Friday, May 8, 2009 at her home.

Born in Pen Argyl, Pa., she graduated from Penn State University with a degree in home economics. She was a member of the Dallas United Methodist Church.

There are no immediate survivors.

JOHNSTONE - Archie G., 81, of Meeker, died Thursday, April 30, 2009 at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township.

Born in Hanover Township on November 11, 1927, he was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. Prior to retiring, he was employed as a cabinetmaker and a millwright.

Surviving are his wife, the former Grace Perrego, of Dallas; sons, Douglas A., of Meeker; David, of Exeter; sister; Betty Davis, of Dallas; and three grandchildren.

Donations will be collected at the funeral home and given to the Disabled American Veterans Organization in his name.

LILLEY - Maryann (Marion) B., 84, of Dallas, died Monday, May 4, 2009 at the Meadows Nursing Center in Dallas.

Born in 1924 in Port Blanchard, she was educated in Jenkins Township schools and was a member of St. Frances X. Cabrini Church, Carverton. She worked for many years at General Cigar Company in Kingston.

Surviving are her children, Doris Eovitch Cyran, of Fairfax, Va; Marilyn Eovitch Kearkuff, of Benton; Ronald Eovitch, of Scranton; and Sharon Eovitch Obuhosky, of Dallas; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; sisters, Martha Yanavitch, of Stevensville; and Theresa Stella, of Pittston;

LONG - Cynthia “Cindy” L., 58, of Tunkhannock, died Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at home.

Born in Dunmore on February 9, 1951, she was a graduate of Tunkhannock Area High School, Class of 1969.

She was a member of the Tunkhannock United Methodist Church. She belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 74 and the Tunkhannock Business and Professional Women. She worked as a real estate appraiser in the area.

Surviving are a son, Scott M., of Tunkhannock; daughter, Brenda L., of Wilkes-Barre; and four grandchildren.

LONG - Warren R., also known as “Abe” or “Pop,” 68, of Sweet Valley, died Sunday, May 10, 2009 at Hospice Care of the VNA, Heritage House, Wilkes-Barre.

Born in Shavertown on September 30, 1940, he was a graduate of Westmoreland High School, Trucksville. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by American Asphalt Paving Company, Shavertown, as a heavy-equipment operator.

He was a member of the Loyalville United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his sons, Gary and Richard, both of Sweet Valley; Steven, of Taylor; Howie, of Harveys Lake; daughters, Lori Ayers, of Harveys Lake; Christine Miller, of Taylor; brother, William, of Harveys Lake; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

MERICLE - Cassie Jon, 22, of Trucksville, died Saturday, May 9, 2009 at home.

Born in Danville on July 9, 1986, she graduated from Dallas High School in 2007 and currently attended the Day Development Program in Kingston.

She was a member of the Lehman United Methodist Church and the Cross Creek Community Church, Trucksville. She also played Challenger Little League from the age of 3 to the age of 18.

Surviving are her parents, Thomas J. Mericle, of Edwardsville; and Linda Fox Mericle, with whom she resided; her paternal grandfather, Allen Fox Sr., of Lehman Township; aunts, uncles and cousins.

PAULETTI - Mary Ann, 93, of Shavertown, died Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at the Meadows Nursing Center, Dallas, where she had been a resident for the past five years.

Born in Nanticoke, she attended Nanticoke schools and had resided in Nanticoke for 47 years prior to moving to the Back Mountain, where she had also resided for 47 years.

She was a member of Saint Therese’s Church, Shavertown, where she was actively involved in the Altar & Rosary Society for 47 years, as well as the Prayer Ministry and the Bereavement Committee of the parish.

Prior to her retirement, she had been employed at local silk mills in the garment industry. She was active in the Dallas Senior Center.

Surviving are a daughter, Mary Wilkes, of Shavertown; a son, Joseph S., of Kingston; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Frances Yatsko, of Kingston; and Barbara Borofski, of Nanticoke; numerous nieces and nephews.

PAVLOVEC - Maralyn R., 77, of Dallas, died Monday, May 4, 2009 at the Meadows Nursing Center in Dallas.

Born June 20, 1931 in Plymouth Township, she attended Edwardsville schools.

She was a member of Saint Francis Cabrini Church, Carverton, where she had served as ecumenical minister and the parish secretary for many years.

Surviving are her children, David J. Tomasura, of Edwardsville; and Amy Zeiss, of Dallas; two grandchildren; a brother, Thomas “Buddy” Williams, of Lisbon, Conn.; sisters, Ann Kmieciak, of Harveys Lake; Margaret “Peggy” Williams, of Pringle; Sheila Gabriesheski, of Edwardsville; and Patricia Gabriesheski, of Pringle; numerous nieces and nephews.

SCHULZE - Thomas Leo, of Carverton, died Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born on September 16, 1961, he graduated from Dallas High School in 1979 where he lettered in football and baseball. He attended Mansfield State College from 1979 to 1981and graduated from Bloomsburg State College in 1985 with a B.A. in Political Science.

In 1987, he joined the U.S. Air Force and served as an F-111 hydraulics mechanic at Cannon Air Force Base, Clovis, N.M. He was employed by ENCON, Patco, and KLM.

He was a member of St. Francis X. Cabrini Church of Carverton.

Surviving are his father, Frederick, of Carverton; brother; Frederick, Springfield, Va.; longtime companion, Kristin Yankovitch, Carverton; a niece and a nephew.

SHERIDAN - Robert John, 56, of Dallas, died Saturday, May 9, 2009 as the result of an automobile accident.

Born July 6, 1952 in Pittston, he was a graduate of Saint John the Evangelist High School and Mansfield University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in history. He was a member of Gate of Heaven Church, Dallas. He had been employed by Tammac in Wilkes-Barre as a collector.

Surviving are his mother, Margaret Hoban Sheridan; his wife of 24 years, the former Susan Kivak; son, Alan, at home, a student at Slippery Rock University; brother, M. Joseph, of Troy; sister, Maureen Murphy, of West Pittston; aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.

WILLIAMS - Lori, of Tamanini Drive, Wyoming, died Saturday, May 9, 2009.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, she was a graduate of Dallas High School, received her Associate’s degree from Mount Ida Junior College in Massachusetts, her Bachelor of Arts degree from Curry College in Massachusetts and her Master’s Degree in social work from Marywood University, Scranton.

She was a member of Temple B’nai B’rith and other civic and religious organizations. She was employed as the director of social services at Valley Crest.

Surviving are her husband, David; brother, Charles Cherkes, Baltimore, Md.; an aunt.
