OBITUARIES
BREHM - Sara E. (Woomer), 90, of Pittston, formerly of Trucksville, died Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at Wesley Village, Jenkins Township.
Born in Nanticoke on Oct. 28, 1918, she was raised and educated in Alden. The wife of a Methodist minister, she resided in many different locations in Pennsylvania as well as Oneonta and Unadilla, N.Y.
After retirement, she and her husband built a home in Centermoreland. She later moved to Trucksville Manor Apartments, where she was an active member of the Trucksville United Methodist Church. In 2002, she moved to Wesley Village.
Surviving are her son, Robert, of Butler; daughters, Georgia L., of Ludlow, Vt.; and Sally B. Martin, of Chatham, N.J.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
DOYLE - William L., 86, of Virginia Beach, Va., formerly of Shavertown, died Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at Lake Taylor Hospital, Norfolk, Va.
Born in Pittston, he was a graduate of Pittston High School, Class of 1940. He served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps during World War II. He was formerly employed by Dupont, Niagara Falls, N.Y.
He was a member of St. Gregory the Great Church, Virginia Beach.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years, the former Magdalene Pavlick; daughter, Barbara Fetterly, of Virginia Beach, Va.; one grandchild; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Paul, of Ashley; a sister, Jane Wolfe, of East Providence, R.I.; and nieces and nephews.
IDE - Leonard H. Jr., 79, of Lehman Township, died Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Born in Lehman on November 23, 1929, he graduated from Lehman High School in 1948 and served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1957.
He resided in Mount Fern, N.J., for 14 years where he was employed by the Hercules Explosive Co., Kenvil, N.J. He returned to Lehman Township where he was employed by the Bendix Corp., South Montrose, followed by 26 years working for the Pennsylvania Gas & Water Co., retiring in 1991.
Leonard was a 50-year member of the Lehman United Methodist Church and was also a member of the Osage Lodge 712, IOOF, Lehman.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, the former Evelyn Will; daughters, Cynthia Jones, of Athens; and Donna Ide, of Bow, N.H.; three grandchildren.

KNECHT - Fay S., 67, of Hunlock Creek, died Friday, May 29, 2009 in Hospice Community Care, Wilkes-Barre.
Born on September 15, 1941 in Wilkes-Barre, she was a graduate of Meyers High School, Class of 1959. She was employed by Mass Mutual and the Keystone State Games.
Surviving are her husband, William; daughter, Ellen Jones, Hunlock Creek; three grandchildren; sister, Vera Engle, Littlestown.

KOCHER - Avis Bernadine, 90, of Lehman Township, died Monday, May 25, 2009 at the Mercy Center, Dallas.
Born on August 10, 1918 in Loyalville, she was a graduate of Lake Township High School and received a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from Bloomsburg State College.
She was employed for 40 years by the Lake Township and Lake-Lehman School Districts as an elementary school teacher. Upon retiring, she became a member of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees.
She was a member of the Loyalville United Methodist Church, the Dallas Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, an honorary member of the Harveys Lake Women’s Service Club and a member of the Pennsylvania Quilters Association.
Surviving are her daughters, Millicent Sharok, with whom she resided; Harriet Litrenta, of Orlando, Fla.; two nieces; great-nieces and great-nephews.

McCOY - Marie N., 89, died Sunday, May 31, 2009 at the Meadows Nursing Center, Dallas.
Born April 26, 1920, in Milroy, she was a graduate of Milroy High School.
Prior to her retirement, she had been employed by the Old River Road Bakery for many years. She was a volunteer for the Red Cross and an active member and past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 396, of Dallas.
She was a member of the Shavertown United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her daughters, Eileen Freid, of Mercerville, N.J.; Martha Brown, of Dallas; and Carol Alphonse, of Mercerville, N.J.; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson.

ROWLANDS - Michael E., 84, of Pennellville, N.Y., died Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at the home of his daughter, Tammy Holena, of Falls.
Born in Tunkhannock on October 21, 1924, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II.
Prior to retirement, he owned and operated Rowlands Nursery, West Wyoming, for over 25 years. He was a member of the Northmoreland Baptist Church before he moved to Pennellville.
Surviving, in addition to his daughter, are his wife, Florence; sons, Michael, of Falls; Paul and Henry, both of Centermoreland; James, of Wapwallopen; daughter, Rebecca May, of Fredericksburg, Pa.; brothers, Stanley, of Clearwater, Fla., and Robert, of West Wyoming.

TOMASELLI - Joyce Louise (Fisk), 67, of West Wyoming, formerly of the Back Mountain, died Sunday, May 31, 2009 at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Born April 4, 1942 in Kingston, she was a graduate of Westmoreland High School and Wilkes-Barre Business College. Prior to her retirement, she had been employed by the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital in the Medical Records Administration Department.
She was also a foster grandparent with the Pittston Head Start program.
Surviving are her mother, Dorothy Davis Fisk, of Dallas; sons, John Sidorek, of Woodland, Calif.; and James Sidorek, of Dallas; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. Memorial donations to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure, 5005 LBJ Freeway, Suite 250, Dallas, TX 75244.
WELCH - Jean, of Harveys Lake, formerly of Hanover Township, died Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township.
Born on November 2, 1932 in Wilkes-Barre, she attended Meyers High School. She was a member of Saint Mary Antiochian Orthodox Church, Wilkes-Barre.
Surviving are her husband of 50 years, Willard; sons, Jeffrey, of Ellicott City, Md.; Scott, of Macungie; daughter, Tammy Simpson, of Dallas; three grandchildren; sisters, Betty Chiavacci, Exeter; Mary Ann Keller, Wilkes-Barre; brother, Sam Ayoub, Phillipsburg, N.J.; several nieces and nephews.

WILKES - Verne L., 67, formerly of Harveys Lake and Edwardsville, died Thursday, May 28, 2009 in Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was a graduate of the Lake Noxen High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and, for many years, was a self-employed contractor.
Surviving are his children, Lesley Wilkes, Lisa Cruz and Brian Wilkes, all of New Jersey; sisters, Lillian Shultz, Kunkle, Violet Eaton, Wilkes-Barre; brothers, Claude (Sonny) and Clarence, both of Harveys Lake; Keith, Wilkes-Barre; numerous nieces and nephews.
