OBITUARIES
CARR - Doris M. Berlew, 84, of Dallas, died Sunday, July 5, 2009 at her home in the Meadows Apartments, Dallas.
Born in Kingston, she was a graduate of Kingston Township High School, Class of 1943. Before retiring, she was employed as an office worker by Penn State University, Wilkes-Barre. Previously, she was employed by MetLife, Clarks Summit, and Natona Mills, Dallas.
She was a member of the Shavertown United Methodist Church and the 12th Masonic District Widows.
Surviving are her son, Donald L., Dallas; daughter, Deborah Spencer, Shavertown; step-daughter, Carolyn Rhoden, Forty Fort; brother, Wendell Jones, Shavertown; six grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

CASTERLINE - Elizabeth A. “Beth” Casterline, 98, of Idetown, died Monday, July 6, 2009 at Lakeside Nursing Center, Harveys Lake, where she had been a resident for six years.
Born in Edwardsville on August 17, 1910, she was a graduate of Edwardsville High School, Class of 1929.
She was a member of the Lehman-Idetown United Methodist Church and a former member of the Jonathon R. Davis Fire Company Auxiliary.
Surviving are a daughter, Jeanne Barrall, Lehman Township; a son, William G. “Butch,” Harveys Lake; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.

DERR - Karen J., 63, of Dallas, died Friday, July 3, 2009 at the Mercy Center Nursing Unit, Dallas.
Born in Harveys Lake, she was a graduate of Lake-Lehman High School and was a member of Gate of Heaven Church, Dallas.
HOOPER - Edward J. Hooper, 85, of McAuley Drive, Dallas, died Thursday, July 2, 2009 at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center.
Born September 12, 1923 in Wilkes-Barre, he was a member of Firwood United Methodist Church, Old River Road, Wilkes-Barre. He was a graduate of Harter High School, West Nanticoke, Class of 1941.
In January 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was aboard the USS Munising 1228 during his service time. He was employed for 33 years by the Acme Markets.
Surviving are his wife of 63 years, the former Marjorie Siegel; daughters, Marilyn Carey, of Kingston; Marcia Moore, of Hanover Township; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Harrison, of Kingston; and several nieces and nephews.
McDADE - Mary D., 87, of Dallas, died Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at Riverstreet Manor, Wilkes-Barre.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, she was a graduate of Coughlin High School. Before retiring, she was employed as a salesperson by Noble Furniture Store, Nanticoke.
She was a member of Gate of Heaven Church, Dallas.
Surviving are her sons, Edward J., Agawam, Mass; John, San Diego, Calif.; Gary, Lehman Township; daughter, Joan Rovinsky, Dallas; sister, Joan Meehan, Edwardsville; brother, Joseph Meehan, Parsons; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Memorial donations to the Luzerne County S.P.C.A. or the Back Mountain Memorial Library.
MORGAN - Almon “Curly,” 80, died away Thursday, July 2, 2009.
A native of Kingston and Dallas Townships, he resided at Mountainside Manor, Dallas, and most recently, Valley Crest.
He was often seen in the Kingston Rollerdome, performing fancy movements on skates.
Surviving are his friends, Andy Roan, Ruth Vaskas, Helen Leoni, Peter Calkins and Julie Scott.
