OBITUARIES

AYERS - Raymond “Red” J., of Centermoreland, died Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2009 at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born on April 28, 1934 in Noxen, he was a 1952 graduate of Tunkhannock High School and, prior to his retirement, was employed as a mill worker at Natona Mills in Dallas for over 22 years.

He was a member of Temple Lodge No. 248 F & AM in Tunkhannock.

Surviving are his son, Jeffrey, of Centermoreland; daughter, Cyndi Laviska, of Falls; brother, Dr. Earle, of Tunkhannock; sisters, Alice Steiner and Betty Carichner, both of Tunkhannock; and five grandchildren.

CATHER - Regina M. “Jean,” of Bodle Road, Dallas, died Oct. 6, 2009 in Kindred Care Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.

Born in Pittston on June 28, 1928, she attended Pittston schools. She was a member of Church of the Holy Redeemer, Harding, and the Altar and Rosary Society.

She was employed by Pittston Apparel, Phillips Seafood and, prior to her retirement, by United Methodist Homes, Wesley Village Campus.

Surviving are her sons, Robert and John, Dallas; daughter, Christine Shively, Dallas; sister, Mary Bender; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

FINNEGAN - Joseph F., of Avery Street, Tunkhannock, died Thursday, Oct. 8, 2009 at the Meadows Nursing Home in Dallas.

Born in Manhattan, N.Y. on July 9, 1926, he was an Army and Navy veteran serving in World War II and in Korea. Prior to his retirement, he worked for the Archdiocese of Newark in the Cemetery Division.

He was a member of the Black Walnut American Legion, Clark Summit VFW Post and the Church of Nativity BVM in Tunkhannock.

Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Margaret M. Boyne Finnegan; son, Michael Vincent, of Warwick, N.Y.; daughter, Patricia, of Edison, N.J.; and three granddaughters.

KEMMERER - Herbert Milton Jr., died Thursday, Oct. 8, 2009 at home.

Born on June 23, 1926 in Wilkes-Barre, he was a World War II veteran and served in the U.S. Army under the 26th Infantry Co. F, and the 168th Quartermaster Truck Co. He saw action in Central Europe and received the Army of Occupation Medal, Europe N. African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and World War II Victory Medal.

He was a member of the Foreign Legion and a life member of the VFW in Sayreville, N.J., Post No. 4699. He retired from Union Carbide Corporation, Bound Brook, N.J., after 32 years, retiring on March 1, 1983.

After residing in the Back Mountain for 20 years, he most recently resided in Chester, New York.

Surviving are his daughters, Marion Borges and Linda Leppig; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

KOOR - Tibor “Teddy,” 81, of Dallas, died Monday, Oct. 5, 2009 at The Laurels, Kingston.

Born in Uzhorod, Czechoslovakia, his life spanned numerous countries in Europe as well as Australia. His life trade was involved in the meat packaging industry.

Surviving is his son, Theodore M., Harveys Lake.

MARGELLINA - Doris M., 86, of Dallas, died Thursday, Oct. 8, 2009 at Hospice Care of the VNA, Heritage House, Wilkes-Barre.

She was born in Wilkes-Barre on Sept. 10, 1923.

Surviving are her sons, Robert J., of Lehman; and Paul S. Sr., of Dallas; daughter, Marsha Hillard, of Hunlock Creek; sister, Donna Lloyd, of Santa Maria, Calif.; and three grandchildren.

Memorial donations to VNA Hospice or Lehman-Idetown United Methodist Church.

NIEMAS - Stephen, 44, of Harveys Lake, died Friday, Oct. 2, 2009 following a long battle with cancer.

He originally hailed from Brentwood, N.Y.

Surviving is his wife, Kelley Moran.

Memorial donations to the Knapper Clinic or Henry Cancer Center of the Geisinger Health Care System, Wilkes-Barre, PA, the House of Care in Danville, PA, the SPCA, or a local K-9 unit.

SCHULZE - Frederick A. Sr., 87, of Carverton, died Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2009 at home.

Born on March 5, 1922 in Duisburg-Baig, Germany, he emigrated to the U.S. in 1923. He lived in Detroit, Mich. and Swoyersville before moving in 1927 to Carverton where he would reside for most of his life.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1945. Assigned to the 320th Bomb Squadron of the 90th Air Force “Jolly Rogers,” he served as a nose gunner on a B-24G Liberator in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He flew on 52 combat missions; participated in four campaigns; was shot down twice and wounded twice.

After the war, he attended Penn State University Extension, where he studied tool and die making. As a tool and die maker, he was employed by Hess-Goldsmith; Union Carbide; TeleRadio; and Radio Corporation of America. He was employed with RCA Mountaintop for 25 years.

He was a member of the VFW and American Legion and did volunteer work with St. Francis X. Cabrini Church in Carverton. He played semi-pro baseball with several local teams in the 1940s and 1950s.

Surviving are his son, Frederick A., Springfield, VA; granddaughter, two grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

SGARLAT - Harry F., of Harveys Lake, died Sunday, Oct. 4, 2009 at home.

SMITH – George “Joe,” 61, of Edwardsville, died Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009 in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born in Idetown, he was an excavator for Brdaric Industries.

Surviving are his mother, Lela Horton Smith, Harveys Lake; children, Tammy and Gary; 11grandchildren; sisters, Judy Harvey and Dawn Bostic; a brother, Jim Lewis; numerous nieces and nephews.

WARMOUTH - Paul W., 93, died Monday, Oct. 5, 2009.

Born in Larksville on Oct. 31, 1915, he moved to Delaware in 1946 with his family to work for TWA. In the 1950s, he built his own home and barn in Minquadale, Del., where he resided for over 50 years.

He retired from Dupont Chamber Works as a pipefitter and welder and after his retirement, returned to Loyalville.

He was a longtime member of Minquadale Methodist Church of New Castle, Del. until he moved back to Pennsylvania where he was a member of Maple Grove Methodist Church in Pikes Creek.

His love of animals led him to train horses for Kiddie Town Amusement Park in Minquadale.

Surviving are his wife of 69 years, Rose Shaw Warmouth; son, Whitfield, of Milford, Del.; daughters, Roxy Moses, of Harveys Lake; and Paulette Walmsley, of Wilmington, Del.; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
