BAKER - Theresa Marie (Randolph), 92, of Dallas, formerly of New Hartford, N.Y., died on Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009.

Born on Sept. 15, 1917 in Port Huron, Mich., she worked as a registered nurse in pediatric hospitals in Chicago, Milwaukee, Ann Arbor and Detroit.

Surviving are her husband of 65 years, Dr. Arthur Baker, daughters, Tannette Bakker, of Kingston; Margaret Bakker, of Shavertown; Florence, of Spruce Head, Maine; sons, Paul, of Durham, N.C.; and Stephen, of Olympia, Wash.; son-in-law, H. Adam Sutherland, of Saratoga Springs, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; sisters, Carolyn Newton, Clara Sischo and Helen Kinnebrew; and a brother, Frank Randolph.

BARBER - Dawn Lee, 51, of Harveys Lake, died Monday, Oct. 12, 2009 at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital after a brief illness.

She was born in New Brunswick, N.J.

Surviving are her mother, Catherine DeRemer, of Sweet Valley; children, Danielle Sweeney, Pittston; Frank Jr., Luzerne; and James, Wilkes-Barre; three grandchildren; brothers, Frank Kelly, of Dallas; Richard DeRemer, Harveys Lake; and Patrick DeRemer, Pine Grove; several nieces and nephews; and her longtime companion, Frank Barber Sr., Luzerne.

COWHER - Hazle, 83, a resident of Ann’s Grove, Tunkhannock, died Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009.

Born in Hazleton on July 3, 1926, she graduated from Hazleton High School.

Surviving are her sons, Henry Scheitrumpf, Scranton; and James Scheitrumpf, Hazleton; daughters, Margaret Mullen, Wyoming; Patricia Zubey, Allentown; Anna Scheitrumpf, N.C.; and four grandchildren.

GOLUBOCK - June Blum, of Newberry Estate, Dallas, died Monday, Oct. 19, 2009.

Born July 13, 1925 in Wilkes-Barre, she attended Meyers High School, Goucher College and Simmons College. In her later years, she attended classes at the New School at NYU in New York City.

She was the first woman president of Temple Israel and the first woman vice-president of the Jewish Community Center. She was a president of the Temple Israel Sisterhood and Hadassah. She served on many boards, including Ecumenical Enterprises, Jewish Federation of Greater Wilkes-Barre, Home Health Services, Northeast Philharmonic, United Way, Interfaith Council, General Hospital Auxiliary, Council of Jewish Women, Luzerne County Medical Society and many others.

Surviving are her husband, Harold; son, Dr. Richard, Kingston; daughters, Marnie Blum Press, Mendocino, Calif.; Debbie Blum Alpert, San Diego, Calif.; stepchildren, Carol and Harvey; five grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; one great-grandson.

HALOWICH - Joseph, 91, a lifelong resident of Harveys Lake, died Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2009 at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born in Lake Township on Jan. 4, 1918, he was employed as a construction worker for most of his life.

Surviving are his sons, Joseph H., of Loyalville; and Robert J., of Harveys Lake; four grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; and a sister, Helen Jacobs, of Shavertown.

KELLER - Joseph W., of Anderson Road, Tunkhannock, died Monday, Oct. 19, 2009 at his home after a lengthy illness.

Born in Kingston on August 27, 1932, he was a graduate of Tunkhannock High School, Class of 1950, and served in the Army as a paratrooper, serving with the 508 Airborne.

He was the president of Keller Crushing and Screening Inc. in Tunkhannock.

Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Helen Kester Keller; son, David, of Tunkhannock; daughters, Linda, of North Port, Fla.; Leslie Mulhern, of Nicholson; brothers, Jay, of Ashville, N.C.; Allen “Butch,” of Honesdale; sisters, Vera VanDorn, of Kernersville, N.C.; Jean Catron, of D’Iberville, Miss.; and Lois Klimas, of Taylor; three grandchildren; a great-grandson; many nieces.

KING - Jane Lois, 78, of Tunkhannock, died Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009.

Born in Passaic, N.J., she retired from the Tunkhannock Area School District as a teacher’s aide. She was an active member of the Tunkhannock Baptist Church as an AWANA Leader.

Surviving are her sons, Robert, of Shavertown; Richard, of Newtown, Conn.; and Roy, of Tunkhannock; daughter, Ruth Remington, of Tunkhannock; brother, Marvin Schoonfield, of Brick, N.J.; sisters, Betty Davis, of Meshoppen; and Dorothy Krauter, of Knoxville, Tenn.; nine grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

MANZONI - Agnes M., 86, of Jackson Township, died Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2009 at home.

Born on Oct. 31, 1922 in Jackson Township, she attended Jackson Township schools.

She was employed by the General Cigar Co., Kingston, before leaving to raise her family. She was a member of St. Therese’s Catholic Church, Shavertown, and a lifetime member of the Jackson Township Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.

Surviving are her husband of 58 years, Francis; sons, Francis (Butch), Daniel and John, all of Jackson Township; daughters, Bernice, of Philadelphia; and Mary Majikes, of Larksville; nine grandchildren; sisters, Katherine Hudak, of Dallas; Margaret Harrison, of Bloomingdale; and Frances Stash, of Jackson Township; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

McCARTY - Hilda Alberta Denmon, of Charlotte, N.C., died Sunday, Oct. 11, 2009 at Huntersville Oaks, Huntersville.

Born on Feb. 1, 1928 in Wilkes-Barre, she was raised in the Beaumont/Dallas areas and in Uleda, Fla. She raised her family in New Jersey, then moved to South Bend, Ind. for her husband’s career before they retired in Ocala, Fla.

Surviving are her children, Ginnie Wiseman, of Concord, N.C.; and Ernie Jr., of Portland, Ore.; one grandchild; sisters, Beverly Dennis, of Sellersburg, Ind.; and Shirley Zimmerman, Beaumont.

MEYERS - William P., 88, of Trucksville, died Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009 at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born in Wyoming, he was a graduate of Coughlin High School, Class of 1939. Before retiring, he was employed by Stegmaier Brewing Company as a truck driver for 33 years.

He was a member of the Trucksville United Methodist Church, a 50-year member of George M. Dallas Lodge 531 F.&A.M. and a former member of Caldwell Consistory, Irem Temple A.A.O.N.M.S. and Irem Arab Patrol. He

Surviving are his wife of 68 years, Claire Searfoss Meyers; daughters, Joan R., Dallas; Donna E. Meyers Johnson, Keller, Texas; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

POCKEVICH - Catherine “Cathy,” 52, of Harveys Lake, died Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009 at Hospice Community Care Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre after a 10-year battle with breast cancer.

She was born on Nov. 27, 1956 in Wilkes-Barre.

Surviving are her husband, Thomas; sons, Gregory and Thomas, at home; Matthew, of Edwardsville; Daniel, of Plymouth; eight grandchildren; brothers, John Gayewski, of Mountain Top; Robert Gayewski, of Ashley; sisters, Theresa Solomon, of Wilkes-Barre; Maureen Gavlick, of Harveys Lake; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

REESE - Thomas Edward, 85, died Sunday, Oct.18, 2009 at his home on Franklin Street in Dallas.

Born March 8, 1924, he was a graduate of Dallas Borough High School and Wilkes College. He was in the U.S. Navy in World War II.

He was the former owner and operator of Glenview Coal Supply, Dallas; Dallas Borough tax collector for 32 years; administrative assistant to Senator Charles D. Lemmond; Fifth District Chairman Luzerne County Republican Party; American Legion Post No. 672, past Commander and adjutant; Dallas Lions Club; George M. Dallas Lodge 351 F. A&M, Caldwell Consistory, Bloomsburg; Irem Shrine Center, Dallas; Odd Fellows, Dallas; Back Mountain Little League former coach and treasurer; member and former Sunday School teacher at the Dallas United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Martha Mae Hadsall Reese; children, Priscilla Evelyn Aldrow, Harrisonburg, Va.; Shirley Ann Shoff, Concord, N.C.; Thomas John, Blakeslee; sister, Shirley Templin, Dallas; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

STEIDINGER - Frances M., 83, of Beaumont, died Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2009 at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born in Ruggles, she was a member of the Slocum Chapel Apostolic Faith Church of Jesus Christ, Exeter.

Surviving are her children, Christine Graziano, Allentown; Charles and Norman, both of Beaumont; Harold, Virginia; Nancy Kreidler, Lake Silkworth; Gary, Ashley; Paul, Tunkhannock; 18 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

YANCHIK - Edwin J., 80, of Chase, died Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009 at his home.

Born in Nanticoke, he was a graduate of Nanticoke High School and served in the Army during the Korean War.

He was employed by Motor Twins Ford, Wilkes-Barre and Kingston, retiring as a service manager. He has resided in Chase for the past 53 years and was a member of St. Therese’s Church, Shavertown, and its Men’s Club.

Surviving are his wife of 58 years, the former Amelia Beeunas; sons, Edwin J. Jr., Hunlock Creek; Christopher M., Lehman; Craig M., Dallas; Brian J., Summerville, S.C.; seven grandchildren; sisters, Joan Lipka and Celia Cikowski; brother, George; several nieces and nephews.
