COLL - Sister Mary Dolores, RSM, a member of the Sisters of Mercy of the Mid-Atlantic Community, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 2009, at Mercy Center, Dallas.
The former Mary Grace Coll, she was born July 12, 1925 in McAdoo. A graduate of St. Gabriel High School, Hazleton, she received a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from Misericordia University.
She entered the Sisters of Mercy in 1944 and professed her religious vows in 1947. Sister Dolores taught in the primary grades in the dioceses of Scranton, New York and Harrisburg. She retired to the prayer ministry at Mercy Center in 1999.
Surviving are a cousin, Mrs. Miriam Jamelli, Hazleton; and the Sisters of Mercy of the Mid-Atlantic Community.

FRITZINGER - Franklin W., 89, of Dallas, died Thursday, Feb. 19, 2009 at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Born in Lehighton, he attended the Lehighton schools. Before retiring, he was employed as a night manager by I.G.A., Dallas. Previously, he was a lace weaver at Natona Mills, Dallas.
He served in the Marines during World War II and was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Dallas, and its brotherhood.
Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Marjorie Pugh Fritzinger; son, Edward A., Dallas; daughter, Susan Siperko, Dallas; three grandsons; and a brother, Allen, Lewes, Del.

GREGSON - Georgina Agnes, 91, of Shrine View, Dallas, died Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009 at the Mercy Center, Dallas.
Born Nov. 5, 1917 in Canada, she was a lifelong resident of Dallas for other than a few years while working in Texas.
She was a graduate of Wyoming Seminary, Class of 1935, where she was nominated to the Hall of Fame for her skills and sportsmanship while on the field hockey team and was a graduate of Skidmore University, where she received her B.A. degree in Sociology. She served as alumna trustee at Seminary, was president of the Wyoming Seminary Alumni Association and was honored with the Distinguished Service Award. She was also an active volunteer with the Luzerne County Historical Society annual auction.
She began her business career as a travel agent with the First Eastern Bank Travel Department and worked for many years with the AAA of South Wilkes-Barre until her retirement in her early 70s.
Surviving are her brother, John, Brownsville, Vt.; one nephew; three nieces; five grand-nieces; and three-grand nephews.

JACKOWSKI - Catherine, 97, of Sweet Valley, formerly of Dallas, died Monday, Feb. 23, 2009.
Surviving are her daughters, Rosemarie, Eleanor, Mary Lou and Antoinette; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

JOHNSON - Patricia “Tish” Jean, of King George, Va., formerly of Tunkhannock, died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009.
Born on Dec. 23, 1953 in Lymanville, she was a 1971 graduate of Tunkhannock High School and attended Barrington College, Rhode Island, receiving a BS degree in Spanish in 1975.
She received her Masters in Business Administration from The University of Phoenix in 2008. As a college student, she went on mission trips to Alaska and Honduras. In more recent years, she participated in two mission trips to China, teaching English as a Second Language. As a result of her volunteer work with the Boy Scouts, she was one of only 23 in the United States to receive the Silver Beaver Award last year.
She was employed by URS, EG&G Division, Stafford, Va. She was a part of the MRAP Cougar Support Team and was a bi-lingual school teacher for many years before working for the government.
Surviving are her parents, Roger and Jean (Hall) Williams, of Keiserville,; her husband of 27 years, David Johnson; sons, Jonathan, of Supply, Va.; and Mark, of King George, Va.; two step-sons, David, of North Bay, Ontario; and Jeff, of Coventry, R.I.; five step-grandchildren; brothers, Terry S. Williams, of Bardwell; and R. Dell and R. Brian, both of Lymanville; sister, Lori Kim Williams, of Keiserville; nieces and nephews.
MADIGAN – Bob Sr., a resident of Saylorsburg, formerly of Scranton, died Monday, Feb. 16, 2009 in Geisinger Wyoming Valley.
Born in Scranton, he was a graduate of Central High School, Scranton, and a Vietnam War veteran, having served with the US Army. He was a former board member of the American Diabetes Association, Wyoming Valley and was active with the Pocono Mountain Association of Realtors. He was CEO of Century Management Systems in Forty Fort until moving to Saylorsburg where he was a broker with Century 21, Brodheadsville.
Surviving are his companion, Stephanie Whalen; a former wife, Agnes Jenevich Mayer, Scranton; their children, Robert Madigan, Jr., Bethlehem; Dr. Susan Madigan Keller, Sandpoint, Idaho; a former wife, Carol Britt Madigan, Shavertown; their children, Erin Madigan, Forty Fort; and Colin Madigan, Shavertown; a sister, Marjorie E. Arnold, Cinnaminson, NJ; four grandchildren; three nieces and a nephew.

RAVE – Barbara Culp, 80, of Overbrook Avenue, Dallas, died Sunday, Feb. 15, 2009 at home.
Born Nov. 3, 1928 in Huntsville, she was a graduate of Lake-Lehman High School and Bloomsburg College. She was a lifetime member of the Huntsville Christian Church.
Surviving are her children, Robert A. Jr., Peggy Rave, John Scott, Holly Brace and Kathryn Michael, all of Dallas; six grandchildren; brother, Royal Culp, of Kingston; sister, Ruth Mattern, of Plains; numerous nieces and nephews.

ROBBINS - J. Russell, of Dallas, died Thursday, Feb. 19, 2009 in Hospice Community Care at Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre.
Born May 12, 1925 in Orange, he attended Centermoreland Schools. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Dymond’s Farms, Orange.
Surviving are his daughters, Gail Holdredge and Lori Rezykowski, both of Exeter; sisters, Bertha Scott, Harding; Irene Corby, Tunkhannock; Frances Boyer, Exeter; Florence Hunt, New York; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.
SCHAUB - Joseph B., 80, of Dallas, died Monday, Feb. 16, 2009 at the Mercy Center.
Born May 14, 1928, he obtained degrees from St. John’s University and New York University. He served with distinction in the United States Army from 1950 until 1956 and was a decorated veteran.
He worked for the General Motors Corporation most of his adult life and managed the company’s export products for many years.
Surviving are his sons, Joseph, Robert and Thomas; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

SHAFFER - Edith, 83, formerly of Dallas, died Sunday, Feb. 15, 2009 at her home in League City, Texas.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, she graduated from Dallas Township High School. Before retiring, she was employed as a clerk at Roth Jewelers, Dallas.
She was a member of the Dallas United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her daughter, Janis Barringer, League City, Texas; two grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.
TRANELL - Yvonne, 72, of Dallas Township, died Feb. 22, 2009 at home.
Born Dec. 11, 1936 in Nanticoke, she graduated from Marymount High School, then pursued a career in nursing and graduated from St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Brooklyn, N.Y. She practiced nursing in State College for many years, along with numerous facilities throughout Northeastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York.
She opened her own business, Distinctive Designs by Yvonne, in Wilkes-Barre, and later expanded her business to Kingston.
Surviving are her brother, Raymond Baran, Plantsville, Conn.; sister, Rosalie Nothen, Dallas; nieces; great-nieces a great-nephew; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

WELBY - Brian Paul, 32, of Palmyra and formerly of Lehman, died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2009 at Penn State Hershey Medical Center.
Born in Scranton, he was a graduate of Lake-Lehman High School, Class of 1995, and Shippensburg University, Class of 1999, where he received a bachelor’s degree in psychology.
He had been employed by the Friendship House in Scranton for several years as a counselor and technical support specialist. Most recently, he was employed by Philhaven Behavioral Services as a counselor for special needs children. Additionally, he had just recently received certification as a Microsoft certified engineer.
Surviving are his parents, James and Ginny Bauman Welby, of Lehman; his wife, the former Wendi Davenport; brothers, Jamie, of Swoyersville; and Jeffrie, of Dallas; one niece; mother-in-law, Ginny Davenport; godmother, Karen Kairis; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

ZUBA - Joseph J., 72, of Dallas, died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2009.
Born in Luzerne, he graduated from Luzerne High School and served as an Army Reservist with the 300th Field Hospital unit.
He worked at Consolidated Cigar and retired from the Dallas Post Office after 23 years of service. He was most recently employed as a courier for the Dallas School District.
Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Elaine Wagner Zuba; daughters, Christine Zuba Miles, Hollidaysburg; Joanne Zuba, Forty Fort; and Kathleen Zuba Fleschut, Trucksville; sisters, Ann Marie Kolaski, Kingston; Margaret Peters, Pringle; three grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
