AVERY - Robert L., of Dalton, Overfield Township, Wyoming County, died Wednesday, March 18, 2009 in the Hospice Unit of Community Medical Center, Scranton.

Born in Overfield Township on May 1, 1949, he was a graduate of Tunkhannock High School, Class of 1967, and the Johnson Technical School in Scranton. For the past 22 years, he was employed by Metro Industries of Wilkes-Barre.

Surviving are his wife of nine years, Jessie Miller Avery; sons, Mark, of Connecticut; and Ryan, of Tunkhannock; stepdaughters, Kim Holland and June Reed, both of Carbondale; and Bessie Reed, of Jermyn; sisters, Ann “Cookie” Grindall, of Dalton; Pam Kitchnefsky and Betty Mitch, both of Tunkhannock; Donna Chepalonis, of Exeter; and Phyllis Avery, of New Hampshire; five step-grandchildren.

BUDA - Walter J., 78, died Friday, March 20, 2009.

He was a professional educator at Lake-Lehman School District for 37 years until his retirement in 1994.

Surviving are his wife of 37 years, Eleanor; brother, Edward; nieces and nephews.

CONDEN - Vera Alena Martin, of Kunkle, died Sunday, March 22, 2009.

She was born in Milford, Del., on March 12, 1918.

Surviving are her children, Nelson Conden, Maryland; Marilyn Stevens, New Jersey; Linda Barber, Harveys Lake; and Sharon Jennings, Plymouth; 23 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Howard Martin, Florida.

HACKLING - George, 60, of Seabrook, Texas, died Sunday, March 15, 2009 at his home.

Born in Dallas, he enlisted in the Air Force and was a Vietnam veteran. Upon his discharge, he continued his education at Luzerne County Community College, finishing with a master’s degree in psychology from the University of Houston. He had been employed in mental health/mental retardation, ending his career as deputy executive director/chief of operations Gulf Coast Mental Health.

Surviving are his mother, Jane Hackling, of Kunkle; his wife, Jenny; a step-daughter, Courtney; brother, Carl, Lancaster; sisters, Bonnie Shingleton, Portsmouth, N.H.; Peggie Hackling, Kunkle; Dodie Regnosky, Dallas; nieces and nephews.

HUDAK - Ruby, 68, formerly of Dallas, died Sunday, March 22, 2009 at the Hospice Care of the Visiting Nurses Association Inpatient Unit at Heritage House, Wilkes-Barre.

Born June 21, 1940 in Wilkes-Barre, she was employed as the manager of Pope’s Bar in Plymouth.

Surviving are her husband, John; five children; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers, Jay Murphy Sr., Wilkes-Barre; Ted Murphy, Plains; sisters, Janet Dawe, Easton; Susan Baer, Sweet Valley; nieces and nephews.

KEENER - Mildred Inez, 76, of Wyoming Avenue, Kingston, died Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at Golden Living Center, Plains Township.

Born in Carverton on March 18, 1933, she graduated from Lehman High School and was formerly employed at Price Chopper in Edwardsville.

She was a member of the Lehman United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her daughters, Helen Sgarlat, Forty Fort; Toby Felia, Larksville; Dorothy Souder, Sweet Valley; sisters, Helen Stewart, Sweet Valley; Gloria Ivey, Lehman Township; brothers, Roland Gensel, Archbald; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

MACMILLAN - Percy A., 65, of Noxen, died Friday, March 20, 2009 at home.

Born in Noxen, he was a graduate of Tunkhannock High School, Class of 1961. He was employed through the Boilermakers Union Local 13 of Philadelphia, where he was employed for 39 years prior to his retirement.

He was also the president of the Kasson Brook Hunting Club.

Surviving are his wife of 30 years, the former Margaret (Tinker) Florek; children, Edward MacMillan, Percy MacMillan and Chris Zacharias, all of Harveys Lake; David Patton, Lynn MacMillan and Lou MacMillan, all of Noxen; Mike Patton, Falls; Joseph MacMillan, Wilkes-Barre; Lori Patton and Carl Allar, Williamstown N.J.; 17 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Rita Wilson, Tuscumbia, Ala.; Joyce Lewis and Freddi Fetchko, both of Noxen; several nieces and nephews.

PAPPAS - Edward, 70, of Trucksville, died Friday, March 20, 2009 at home.

He attended Coughlin High School and was employed by the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, retiring after 25 years of service as maintenance supervisor.

He was a former member of the Rockin’ Cruisers Car Club.

Surviving are his wife of 40 years, Joan; daughters, Debbie Teller and Brenda Wilson, both of Nebraska; Christine Organek, of Trucksville; sons, Donald Williamson, of Plains; David Williamson, of Kingston; and Paul Williamson, of Wilkes-Barre Township; many grandchildren; one great-grandchild; many nieces and nephews; and a brother, Richard, of Wilkes-Barre.
