DAVIS - Jane C., of Maple Lane, Tunkhannock, died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2008 at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township.

Born November 12, 1921 in Kingston, she was a 1937 graduate of Dallas Township High School and had been employed by Commonwealth Telephone Co. in Dallas, Citizens National Bank in Tunkhannock and retired from the Tunkhannock Area School District after 20 years of service.

She was a member of the Tunkhannock United Methodist Church, Tunkhannock Women’s Club and was a former den mother for the Tunkhannock Cub Scouts. She was also active in the Tunkhannock Girl Scouts, receiving the Curved Bar Award.

Surviving are her husband of 62 years, Donald E. Davis; two sons, Donald, of Tunkhannock; and Rusty, of Lake Winola; a daughter, Deborah Yager, of Dallas; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

ECK - Evelyn T., 93, of Shavertown, died on Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008.

A resident at the Village of Greenbriar for 2� years prior to her death, she was a graduate of West Pittston High School and attended Nesbitt Memorial Hospital School of Nursing to becoming a registered nurse. She practiced private-duty nursing until her marriage in 1940.

She continued her involvement with Nesbitt for over half a century, serving on the Board of the Hospital Auxiliary in the role of president, on the Hospital Board of Trustees as Chairman of Community Relations and volunteered for years in the Hospitality Shop.

She was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Dallas where she sang in the choir for over 60 years, was a member of the Dorcas Society and served on the Church Council. Her civic interests included participation in the Dallas Women’s Club, the Women’s Glee Club, Irem Women’s Golf, the board of Planned Parenthood of Wyoming Valley and the Wyoming Valley United Way.

Over the years, she also taught Sunday School and served as both a Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader. She was named Mrs. Wyoming Valley in 1956.

Surviving are a son, Dr. Jack Eck, of Vail, Colo.; daughters, Marilyn Eck, of Seattle, Wash.; Dorothy Strauch, of Discovery Bay, Calif.; and Beverly Williams, of Castle Rock, Colo.; two grandchildren; one great-grandson; sister, Mary Reese, of Dallas; brothers, Tom Templin, of Shavertown; Ralph Templin, of Golden, Colo.; numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial donations to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Dallas, Pa.; Planned Parenthood of Wyoming Valley; or Hospice Community Care.

PENMAN - Mildred R., 85, formerly of Dallas, died Monday, Dec. 3, 2008.

Born in Mount Carmel, she was a receptionist for Dr. Richard C. Post at the Back Mountain Veterinarian Center prior to retiring. She was a member of the Russian Orthodox Church.

Surviving are her husband, John Haas Penman, Middleboro, Mass.; daughter, Deborah A. Smith, Lakeville, Mass; nieces and nephews.

TILLEY - Jennie Grabarek, 91, of Dallas, died on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008. Born in Luzerne on February 24, 1917, she lived in Dallas for the last 32 years.

She was employed at the Chrysler Motor Co. during her early years living in Michigan. She was a member of Resurrection of The Lord PNCC in Edwardsville and sang for many years in the Fryderick Chopin Choir.

Surviving are a daughter, Linda Boduch, Clearwater Beach, Fla.; son, Donald, Dallas; three sisters, Mary Grabarek, Wilkes-Barre; Wanda Grabarek Ogurkis, Courtdale; Clara Grabarek Kownacki, Chandler, Ariz.; three brothers, Wensell Grabarek, Durham, N.C.; Edward Grabarek, Hanover Township; Alexander Grabarek, Robbinsville, N.J.Memorial donations can be made to Fryderick Chopin Choir Fund, Resurrection of The Lord PNCC, or Hospice of Wilkes-Barre Chapter.

WILKES - Mary K., of Shavertown, died Monday, Dec. 8, 2008 at the Golden Living Center Summit, Wilkes-Barre.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, she had been employed by the state Department of Environmental Resources prior to her retirement.

Surviving are her husband of 42 years, Paul C.; brothers, William, Wilkes-Barre; and Stanley, Lansing, Mich.; sister, Sophie, Wilkes-Barre; numerous nieces and nephews.
