Egan was invited to attend the Junior Presidential Youth Inaugural Conference after having attended the Junior National Young Leaders Conference in Washington, D.C. last spring. The conference, sponsored by the Congressional Youth Leadership Council, invited nearly 3,000 middle school scholars from across the country to attend a five-day conference where they learned about the roles and responsibilities of the president, the electoral process and the attributes of leadership.
Scholars took part in various educational activities and were addressed by General Colin Powell (Ret.), former vice-president and Nobel Peace Prize recipient Al Gore and Erik Weihenmayer, author and the first blind person to reach the summit of Mt. Everest.
