Elizabeth “Betsy” Gover, of Dallas, a third-grade teacher at Wyoming Seminary Lower School in Forty Fort, received the prestigious Frances and Louis Maslow Award for excellence in teaching on Wednesday, June 3, during the school’s eighth-grade commencement ceremony.

Gover received the honor in recognition of her effective teaching, support of the primary program and ideals of the school and her positive influence on the lives of the students.
Gover has taught third grade at the Lower School for 20 years and is the director of the Primary Division’s Respect and Responsibility program, which is designed to develop habits of empathy, understanding and good citizenship among the students. She also has served on the Curriculum Committee, Reading Committee, Social Studies Committee and the Pennsylvania Association of Private Academic Schools (PAPAS) accreditation committee for the Lower School.
Prior to joining Wyoming Seminary Lower School, Gover taught transitional, first and second-grade classes for six years at Dallas Elementary School. She also served as a substitute teacher at Sem before joining the full-time faculty in 1989.
She holds a bachelor of arts degree in psychology from Wilkes University and is certified in pre-kindergarten through sixth-grade education. She is in the process of completing a master of science degree in educational development and strategies at Wilkes. She and her husband, Bruce, are the parents of three grown children.
