Students from Tunkhannock featured in the documentary movie ’Shanksville, PA: A Place of Inspiration’ are, from left, Eric Phillips, senior, Monroe Township; Ciera Rosario, senior, Lake Winola; Kelsey Lee, senior, Tunkhannock Borough; Laura Lomascolo, junior, Centermoreland; and Maria Romero, junior, Tunkhannock Borough.

Later in the day, they attended a private screening for a film created by well-known documentary filmmaker and producer Dr. Anthony J. Mussari, of Dallas.

The students are Kelsey Lee, Laura Lomascolo, Maria Romero, Ciera Rosario and Eric Phillips.

They traveled to Shanksville last year to visit the temporary memorial to the Heroes of Flight 93, the plane that crashed on September 11, 2001 when its passengers tried to take it back from terrorists bound for Washington, DC.

In the documentary, “Shanksville, PA: A Place of Inspiration,” the students are shown visiting the place where the famous picture, The End of Serenity, was taken by Val McClatchey and they were the guests at a community dinner where they were presented with the 9/11 National Remembrance Flag for their school by its creator, Joanne Galvin.

“The students from Tunkhannock, who were in third grade on 9/11, were invited to experience the site firsthand,” said Mussari. “What they learned, how they changed and the insights they gained from the trip and the people they met are the core of the documentary. It will provide the audience with a look at the memorial fashioned with artifacts left behind by thousands who visit the site every year and the poignant story of the creation of the 911 Remembrance Flag and its creator Joanne Galvin.”

A public screening of the documentary entitled “Shanksville, PA: A Place of Inspiration” will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 11, at the Dietrich Theater, Tunkhannock. Admission is free. To reserve a seat, call 996-1500.
