The Jane Stitzer Memorial Spelling Bee was held at Dallas Middle School on January 21.

Participants in the Jane Stitzer Memorial Spelling Bee at Dallas Middle School are, from left, Matthew Barrett, assistant principal; MaryKate Stauffer, English teacher; Kelly Whalen, reading specialist; Brian Drouse, runner-up; Nora Tidy, champion; Erin Moreck, event organizer and English teacher; Barbra Wesneski, sixth-grade teacher; Firouzeh Razavi, associate department chair; and Thomas Duffy, principal.
All middle school students participated in a qualifying test in homerooms early in January. Top scorers in each homeroom competed on stage in the auditorium.
The bee lasted 17 rounds and resulted in Nora Tidey, an eighth-grade student, being named champion for the second consecutive year.
Brian Drouse, a seventh-grade student, was the runner-up.
The event was organized by Mrs. Erin Moreck and supported by the English and reading departments at the middle school.
