LEHMAN TWP. – If Lake-Lehman goalkeeper Amy Denmon had any homework to finish last night, she should have brought it to the District 2 Class 2A game against Tunkhannock.

At least she would have had something to do while her team was playing.

Five different Black Knights scored and Lake-Lehman didn’t allow Tunkhannock to take a shot on goal in a 6-0 win against the Tigers in a quarterfinal game Thursday night at Edward H. Edwards Stadium.

Selena Adamshick scored two goals and had an assist, while Gaby Olshemski and Kate Williams each scored once and had two assists as the Black Knights advanced to the semifinals.

Lehman (14-2) will play host Crestwood (15-1) on Tuesday at a time to be determined. Crestwood advanced with a 3-0 win against Meyers. Tunkhannock ended its season at 10-4-1.

The Black Knights dominated possession of the ball, with almost the entire game played within 40 yards of the Tunkhannock goal. The closest Tunkhannock came to getting a shot on goal was in the opening minute of the second half – an attempt that was quickly turned away by the Lehman defense.

“We’ve been really happy with the play of our defense,” said Black Knights head coach Jean Lipski. “We’ve been working very hard at playing the game at our pace. Tonight we were able to do that effectively.”

Adamshick got the Black Knights on the scoreboard early, deflecting a long shot by Olshemski into the back of the cage to make it 1-0 just 2:12 into the game. Five minutes later, Olshemski picked up another assist, this time making a pass to Williams as the Black Knights grabbed a 2-0 lead. Adamshick connected on a penalty stroke with nine minutes remaining in the first half to give Lehman a 3-0 halftime lead.

“We’re been working a lot on ball distribution, not carrying the ball for long time but making quick passes,” said Lipski. “We had a lot of good passes tonight. It also helps when you have a lot of kids who are willing to take the shot. It’s harder to defend.”

Olshemski scored a goal of her own in the second half, while teammate Leigh Hillman and Erica Johnson also scored a goal each. The Black Knights outshot the Tigers 12-0 and finished with a 21-0 advantage in penalty strokes.

The game on the artificial surface was the first time the Tigers didn’t play on grass this season.

“It’s hard to make that adjustment,” said Tunkhannock head coach Liz Stackhouse. “(Lehman) plays and practices on the turf all of the time. We had one practice on turf.

“It was a great season for our girls. I’m very proud of the way they played this season.”

GAMES RESCHEDULED

Two District 2 playoff games were postponed because of poor field conditions. The Class 2A quarterfinal between Nanticoke and Dallas will be played at 3:30 p.m. today at Hanover Area High School. In Class 3A, Coughlin will host Wallenpaupack at 3:30 p.m. today at Guthrie Field in Wilkes-Barre.

What a nasty article on Lehman.(the goalie should have done her homework during the game??!!!!) What is wrong with you Konopki? Stick to the facts.

The first two paragraphs in this article are just mean!! How would you like it if you were on the other team. Well we were and I know we lost but that is just like rubbing salt in the wound. Our girls played their hearts out. We haven't played on turf and it is a whole different game. The ball moves alot faster and bounces differently. If we played on turf all the time it would be a different loss. I think Dave Konopki should think about being unbiased in his reporting.

Seriously Konopcki....you should go cover major league baseball, because nobody would miss you here! Maybe there you can take pot shots and low blows at the players that make millions, instead of picking on teenage girls they way you did in this article. MLB players shouldn't/wouldn't care because they make millions. But all the FH girls around here work darn hard, and don't need your stupid callous remarks made. I noticed you didn't mock Tunkhannock when the beat Holy Redeemer?????? Get a grip and again, stick to the facts. I am considering cancelling our paper subscription because of this - seriously!

Caution Big Dogs at Play said...

If you can't play with the big dogs........stay off the field. Thats what happens when you beat up on weak competition to get 10 wins in D3! Move on up to D2 or D1 and play real competition. Notice WA beat up on Northwest..reason why.. read above!!

He's never unbiased. I notice that Meyers also had 0 shots on goal and 0 corners. Now why do you think he didn't mention that?

It always seems to amaze me how arrogant people can be. We worked our hardest to have an excellent season and guess what Dave... We did. I am not really sure where your expectaions are but you should probably go look at some facts. Our team starts practice in the dead heat of summer to get better at the game. The skill we bring to the game is obviously much better than the skill you bring to your reporting. Being a student in Journalism at my high school, I am learning about the biased reporting like you have just done, and I've learned that people dont like that hence all the negative feedback. So how about next preseason you come at 8:30 in the morning to show us your skill. Hope you do your homework, Dave.
