All-star tournament action in Pennsylvania Districts 17 and 32 of Little League Baseball got underway Thursday at six sites around Lackawanna County.
A total of 27 teams, made up of the all-stars from each league, began pursuit of district titles in the 11-12-year-old division that proceeds toward the famous Little League World Series in Williamsport each summer.
The two districts that make up Lackawanna County are also moving into competition this week in 9-10 and 10-11 age groups and Junior League and Senior League for older players as well as softball tournaments on all but the Senior League level.
The larger tournaments – traditional Little League and 9-10 age group in both districts as well as the 10-11 age group in District 17 – will have round-robin play in pools before advancing to double-elimination brackets. The smaller tournaments, with less teams because not all leagues sponsor all levels of Little League, go right to bracket play.
