(AP) A twin of the Liberty Bell that was a bicentennial gift from Britain has been taken from its tower in Philadelphia and placed in storage.

The so-called Bicentennial Bell was made in the same British foundry as the iconic original. It was presented to the city by Queen Elizabeth II in 1976 and is inscribed with the words, Let Freedom Ring.

The National Park Service on Thursday removed the six-ton bell from its imposing brick tower. The tower and its accompanying building were made for America's 200th birthday and are being demolished for a new Revolutionary War museum.

The bell will remain in storage until its new home is decided.

The Bicentennial Bell is missing its predecessor's famous crack but it also doesn't work. The clapper is broken.
