LUZERNE/WYOMING COUNTIES: Luzerne County Head Start Inc. is conducting open recruitment at area centers. Applications will be taken in Luzerne and Wyoming Counties for the 2013-2014 school year.


Luzerne County Head Start offers a range of comprehensive programs for children from birth to age 5 and pregnant women. The programs are funded by a variety of sources, including federal and state, school district, United Way, community groups, organizations and individuals. Head Start works with low-income children and families to help them achieve their full potential and attain school readiness.


Parents and caregivers should bring proof of child’s age, child’s current shot record, documentation of child’s diagnosed disability/special needs (if applicable), medical insurance coverage and verification of one year’s income. Social Security Numbers may be requested for verification of public assistance and child care subsidy.

(Wilkes-Barre area), 23 Beekman St., Wilkes-Barre: 5-7 p.m. March 13; 5-7 p.m. April 10.



(Dallas and Lehman-Jackson areas), St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, RR 4, Dallas: 5-7 p.m. March 12; 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. April 16.




111 Meyers St., Edwardsville: 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. March 19; 4-6:30 p.m. March 21; 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. April 23; 4-6:30 p.m. April 25.



(Tunkhannock and Mehoopany areas), Roslund Elementary School, 99 Digger Drive, Tunkhannock: 5-7 p.m. March 11.



New Street Housing Project, 560 New St., Plymouth: 9 a.m.-noon and 2:30-6:30 p.m. April 17.



(Hazleton and Freeland areas), St. Stanislaus School, 663 Carson St., Hazleton: 9 a.m.-4 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. March 12.



Mehoopany Elementary School, 400 Scottsville Road, Mehoopany: 10 a.m.-2:30 p.m. March 20.



(Pittston, Wyoming and Dupont areas), St. Rocco’s School, Tompkins and Oak streets, Pittston: 10 a.m.-3 p.m. March 5; 2-6 p.m. April 16; 10 a.m.-2 p.m. April 18.



Plains Housing Authority, 100 Second St., Wilkes-Barre: 2-6 p.m. April 10.



Northwest Primary School, 417 Shickshinny Lake Road, Huntington Mills: 1-6 p.m. Wednesday.
