Alena Carabetta, 10, daughter of Jason and Franceen Carabetta, recently competed in the Mini National Magical Moments Olympic Dreams competition in Budd Lake, N.J. She competed in the 10-12 age category in the modeling competition and in the gown, sportswear and Olympic division of the competition. Carabetta was crowned Magical Moments Mini National. She received a crown, banner and medal. She is a member of the All Star Cheerleading Academy, Jessup. Her competitive team will be traveling to Nashville, Tenn., in April. Carabetta enjoys gymnastics, dance, cheerleading and skiing. She has a sister, Luchia, and a brother, Matteo. She is the granddaughter of Frank and Mary Lou Pisano, Wyoming, and Carol and Ed Carabetta, Hopatcong, N.J.
Mary Griseto, Forty Fort, received a 2012 Wakefern-ShopRite Scholarship for $2,000 to be used for her undergraduate studies. Griseto is attending the University of Pittsburgh as an undecided major. She graduated from Holy Redeemer High School and is a member of Lambda Sigma Honor Society and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.
Lynn Beechay-Feola, a math teacher at Hazleton Area High School, was named a runner up for the Russell Galt Award for outstanding high school educators from Susquehanna University. The award was presented during Susquehanna's annual University Scholars recognition dinner on Nov. 9. The award is presented in honor of the late Russell Galt, dean of Susquehanna University from 1938 to 1959. The award is presented to outstanding educators at the secondary level who have had a significant impact on their students' academic success. Beechay-Feola was nominated for the honor by Susquehanna student Loren Schott.
