Sixth-ranked NC State tops Penn State

BAYAMON, Puerto Rico — T.J. Warren had 22 points and eight rebounds to lead No. 6 North Carolina State to a 72-55 win over Penn State in the opening round of the Puerto Rico Tipoff on Thursday.


C.J. Leslie had 14 points and Rodney Purvis added 12 points for the Wolfpack (2-0). Purvis was 3 for 3 on 3-pointers and N.C. State shot 8 for 16 from beyond the arc.


Tim Frazier led the Nittany Lions (1-1) with 23 points. D.J. Newbill had 13 points and Jermaine Marshall added 11 points for Penn State, which shot 3 for 19 on 3-pointers.



Louisville 80, Samford 54

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Russ Smith scored a game-high 18 points, Chane Behanan grabbed a career-high 18 rebounds and added 12 points and No. 2 Louisville routed Samford.


Behanan reached his career best in the first half with 13, outrebounding the Bulldogs (12) by himself.




Kansas 69, Chattanooga 55

LAWRENCE, Kan. — Freshman guard Ben McLemore had 25 points and eight rebounds, Elijah Johnson added 18 points and No. 7 Kansas used a big second-half charge to beat Chattanooga.


The Jayhawks (2-1), coming off a loss Tuesday night to Michigan State, got off to a sluggish start against the Mocs, and still trailed 42-30 in the opening minutes of the second half.



Indiana 99, Sam Houston State 45

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Christian Watford scored 24 points to help No. 1 Indiana defeat Sam Houston State in the Progressive Legends Classic.


Will Sheehey scored 18 points, Victor Oladipo had 14 and Jordan Hulls 10 for the Hoosiers (3-0), who shot 57 percent from the field and made 9 of 21 3-pointers.


NBA Nets 102, Celtics 97

NEW YORK — Joe Johnson made the tiebreaking basket with 3:03 left, Deron Williams and Brook Lopez each scored 24 points, and the Brooklyn Nets beat the Boston Celtics for their fourth straight victory.


Williams had eight assists and made all nine free throws on a night Paul Pierce had two huge misses in the final minute for the Celtics, who played without injured point guard Rajon Rondo.



Knicks 104, Spurs 100

SAN ANTONIO — Raymond Felton scored 25 points and the New York Knicks stayed undefeated by rallying to beat the San Antonio Spurs.


J.R. Smith added 17 points, Jason Kidd had 14 and Tyson Chandler 13 for the Knicks (6-0), who closed on a 22-11 run to remain the NBA's lone unbeaten team.
