Dallas holds the line on taxes

DALLAS -- Borough Council has finalized a spending plan for 2013 that holds the line on real estate taxes.


Last week the borough approved the proposed 2013 budget of $1.14 million. The budget is available for review at the borough office.


The council also approved a resolution to reduce the police officers pension plan member contributions to 2 percent for 2013, and set non-uniformed member contributions to 1 percent.


Council members approved employee benefits contributions at 6 percent for medical, dental and vision. They also authorized the advertisement of tax rates for 2013.


In other business, council


• Approved the 2013 general insurance package, workers compensation coverage and bonds at annual rate of $41,316 as proposed by DGK Insurance.


• Authorized donation on $50 to the Post Scholarship Fund, in care of Penn State Wilkes-Barre Campus, in memory of Robert E. Post, former Dallas councilman and mayor.


• Authorized the borough engineer to solicit bids for the redesigned replacement of traffic signal mast arms at the intersection of State Route 309 and State Route 415.


What's next

The next Borough Council meeting will be on Monday, Dec. 17, at 7 p.m. in the borough building.
