Mariano Medico
Junior, Holy Redeemer
The Times Leader Golfer of the Year, he took several first-place medals this season, including the Preseason Tryba Tournament, the Class 2A Pre-District Tournament and the District 2 Class 2A Tournament. Now a three-time district qualifier, he also finished seventh at the East Regional event to qualify for the PIAA Championships, where he took fifth. To wrap up honors, he was selected as the WVC Coaches MVP in Class 2A.
Matt Slavoski
Senior, Holy Redeemer
He finished tied for third at season-opening Tryba tournament and was third in Class 2A Pre-District Tournament followed by a fifth-place showing at districts and taking 29th at the East Regional Tournament. He was also a big piece of the Royals claiming the District 2 Class 2A team title and second-place finish at states.
Chase Makowski
Junior, Holy Redeemer
A three-time district qualifier, he took second at the Preseason Tryba Tournament and at the Class 2A Pre-District Tournament. At districts, he tied for 11th finishing just two shots away from qualifying for the playoff to advance to regionals. He was a big contributor for the Royals, who claimed their third straight WVC championship, went unbeaten for the third straight season with a 12-0 mark – having gone 10-0 the previous two seasons – and claimed their fifth straight division championship.
Chris McCue
Senior, Wyoming Valley West
He started with an 80 at the Preseason Tryba Tournament, finishing in the top 25, but finished the season in spectacular fashion winning the District 2 Class 3A tournament after an eighth-place finish at the Pre-District tournament. He ends his career as a four-time district qualifier and tied for 36th at the Class 3A East Regional.
Ryan Tracy
Senior, Pittston Area
One of the most consistent golfers in the WVC with the Patriots, he qualified for districts all four seasons. This year, he tied for fifth at the Tryba event, won the Class 3A pre-districts and was fifth at the District 2 Class 3A tournament to qualify for the East Regional. He was also selected as the WVC Coaches MVP in Class 3A.
Shamus Gartley
Senior, Coughlin
A three-time district qualifier, he tied for ninth at the Preseason Tryba Tournament and followed that taking second at the Class 3A Pre-District Tournament. He finished the District 2 Class 3A Tournament tied for the last qualifying spot for regionals, eventually losing out on a playoff.
Mike Post
Senior, Coughlin
Post began the season tied for fifth at the Preseason Tryba Tournament and rebounded from a tough individual postseason, where he fell in a tiebreaker to qualify for districts. He then led the team to the District 2 Class 3A championship match, earning medalist in WVC team playoffs as Coughlin won the team title. The Crusaders finished the regular season with a 6-4 record claiming the 3A Division I title.
Zack Mulhern
Senior, Wyoming Area
He had a solid season from start to finish for the Warriors beginning with a fifth-place showing at the Preseason Tryba Tournament and ending with a heart-breaking finish missing out on the state tournament falling in a playoff at the East Regional. In between, he placed fourth at pre-districts and qualified for the regional tournament by taking sixth in a playoff in the District 2 Class 2A Tournament.
Courtney Melvin
Junior, Wyoming Area
She qualified for regionals finishing third in the 3A districts after taking second at the pre-district event losing in a playoff to her teammate, Madeline Wharton. Melvin's season concluded with a 19th-place finish at the East Regional. At the Preseason Tryba Tournament, she placed 37th among boys and girls.
