PLAINS TWP. – Two working methamphetamine labs were discovered by state drug agents Wednesday night, one in a motel room and the other in the trunk of a vehicle.

John Soprano, regional director for the state Office of Attorney General's Bureau of Narcotics Investigation, said everything needed to make meth was found inside a room at the Melody Motel on state Route 115.

Drug agents searched the motel after arresting Jonathan Cole, 26, and his wife, Jessica Cole, 25, during a traffic stop on state Route 11 in Hunlock Township.

Soprano said a mobile methamphetamine lab was found in the trunk of their vehicle.

(Wednesday) afternoon our agents went down (at the motel) to do a buy and determined he was cooking meth, Soprano said. We knew he was going to leave and stopped him. He had meth actively cooking in the trunk with bottles and 15 bottles filled with (meth) waste.

Cole and his wife, who is eight months pregnant, had been living at the motel for about a month.

Soprano said the office's clandestine unit safely removed ingredients from the vehicle and motel room. Plains Township firefighters were at the motel as a precaution due to the highly flammable ingredients.

Cole was arraigned Thursday by District Judge Ronald Swank in Wright Township on four counts of possession with intent to manufacture controlled substances, two counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, and one count each of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, risking a catastrophe, criminal conspiracy and illegal dumping of methamphetamine waste. He was jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $35,000 bail.

Soprano said Jessica Cole will be charged at a late date. She was jailed at the Columbia County Prison on arrest warrants for failure to appear in court and a probation violation, according to court records.

Luzerne County Court records indicate Jessica Cole was sentenced in January 2010 on separate heroin possession charges.

A preliminary hearing for Cole is scheduled on Dec. 11.
