LEHMAN TWP. -- The Lake-Lehman School Board acted at Monday night's meeting for the district to participate in and serve as the location for the proposed Jackson Township Community Recreation/Wellness Park.
Together with the township, the district will apply for funding from the state Department of Community and Development Local Share Assessment Account.
In another matter, Tom Melone of Albert Melone and Co. told the board that the budgeting process for the 2014-2015 school year has begun. We intend to follow last year's calendar of events, he said.
Melone said a spending plan will be prepared in January that might include a tax increase. He said last year's allowable percentage increase in millage was 2.2 and that this year's is 2.1.
A mill is a $1 tax on each $1,000 of assessed property value.
Melone also said the district will be facing the same type of challenges as in previous years.
In other business:
Superintendent James McGovern read a proposed mission statement including the district's vision and beliefs. The mission statement will be up for adoption at January's meeting.
McGovern explained to a concerned band volunteer that a new volunteer policy is being developed but is not yet in place. He said that the third reading of the new policy could possibly occur at January's meeting.
The next board meeting is Jan. 14 at 7 p.m. in the junior/senior high school library.
