FORTY FORT ‚?? A Pennsylvania Lottery player was a $1 million jackpot winner after purchasing a Cash 5 ticket at the Turkey Hill convenience store at 1370 Wyoming Ave., Forty Fort.

The Pennsylvania Lottery Commission said Monday the winner, who has a year to turn in the winning ticket, has not come forward. The ticket was purchased for Saturday‚??s drawing, and the winning numbers were 2, 4, 10, 24 and 40.

In the 2011-12 fiscal year, more than $113.1 million in prizes were awarded to Luzerne County winners, according to the Pennsylvania Lottery.

On Monday, Gary Woznick, of Forty Fort, played the Cash 5, something he has done every day for years. He won $27 once on that game but quickly noted he won $7,000 about a decade ago on the now-defunct Match 7 Lotto game.

‚??I was one number away from $13 million,‚?Ě he said as he was walking out of the same Turkey Hill where the winning Cash 5 ticket was sold. ‚??We‚??ll keep playing in 2013. This is my retirement plan.‚?Ě

Bob Horonzy, of Wyoming, also plays the Cash 5 every day and has for the past decade.

‚??It‚??s only a buck,‚?Ě he noted. Knowing that someone will be a millionaire thanks to that $1 investment gives him hope that his numbers will come up one day, too. Others have beaten the long odds and put plenty of green in their pocket this past year.

It started off with Donald Stewart, from Wilkes-Barre, winning the lottery‚??s ‚??Jolly Jackpot‚?Ě $100,000 grand prize drawing. The contest was open to all of those who played a holiday scratch-off ticket in 2011, lost and entered their ticket online for a second-chance drawing.

The $1 million Cash 5 jackpot news capped off a lucky year that saw winning tickets purchased in all corners of the Luzerne County. Among the big winners in 2012:

‚?Ę Cash 5: Bohdan A Bobynsky of Mountain Top, won $1 million in November; Leocadia T. Prawdzik of Hazleton, won $365,259 in October; Roland Reese, of Wilkes-Barre, won $250,001 in October; Ruth Rutecki, of Hazleton, won $500,000 in September; Ana Gonzalez, of Hazleton, won $225,000 in May; Donald E. Densberger, of Nescopeck, won $500,131 in April; Edward Luskey, of Shickshinny, won $349,654 in April; and Terry Ferris, of Wilkes-Barre, won $225,000 in January.

‚?Ę Mega Millions: Jose Romero, of Hazleton, won $250,000 in August; John Orbach, of Hazleton, won $250,000 in February;

‚?Ę Power Ball: Brendan A. Larar, of Kingston, won $1 million in July.

‚?Ę Scratch-off tickets: The big winners this year were: Mary B. Wychok, of Mountain Top, won $250,000 in the Sizzlin 777 game.

Lottery sales were driven this year by the changed Powerball game that increased ticket prices but also meant larger starting prizes and quicker climbing jackpots.

Powerball Fever gripped the nation, and Luzerne County, in November.

Two winners shared in the game‚??s largest ever jackpot -- $587.5 million annuity, or $384.7 million cash value ‚?? from the multistate lottery game‚??s Nov. 28 drawing.

Not to be outdone by its competitor, Mega Millions registered the largest American lottery jackpot prize ever in 2012.

The $656 million annuitized (with a cash option of $474 million) prize for the March 30 drawing was shared three ways when a trio of jackpot-winning tickets were sold. None was from Pennsylvania, however.

MILLIONAIRE RAFFLE

The 500,000th -- and final -- ticket for the Pennsylvania Lottery‚??s Jan. 5 Millionaire Raffle drawing was sold Sunday. This will be the 15th edition of the $20 game that gives lottery players the best odds of winning a prize of all the Pennsylvania Lottery‚??s games. Each of the game‚??s $20 tickets offers a 1-in-125,000 chance of winning $1 million, the best odds ever offered by the Lottery for a $1 million prize. The overall odds of winning any prize are 1-in-83.33.

Winning Millionaire Raffle ticket numbers will be randomly selected at 6:59 p.m. Saturday, when the Lottery‚??s live drawing show will televise the selection of four $1 million, top-prize raffle ticket numbers and four $100,000, second-prize raffle ticket numbers. The remaining 100 winning ticket numbers for prizes of $1,000 each and 5,892 winning ticket numbers for prizes of $100 each also will be selected, but will not be televised live due to time constraints. They will be posted on the lottery‚??s website on Sunday.
