Members of the Luzerne County Community College Brothers and Sisters in Christ (BASIC) Club recently performed Christmas carols at the college's Campus Center Rotunda. The group also distributed hot chocolate and cookies to students and staff. During the event, the BASIC Club, Student Government Association and other student clubs collected new or used children's books for the LCCC literary initiative and travel-sized toiletries for ‘We Care' packages for the local needy. Participants also created handmade cards for victims of Hurricane Sandy living at the Atlantic City Mission and for veterans or active military personnel. Some of the participants, from left, first row: Julian Scholl, Nanticoke; Leah Kowalski, Nanticoke, president, Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society; and Jermaine Foster, Wilkes-Barre, president, BASIC Club. Second row: Machelle Smith, Ashley, co-adviser, BASIC Club and secretary, college relations and marketing; Victoria Jones, Wilkes-Barre, chaplain, BASIC Club; David Fox, Drums, president, Student Government Association; Michael Laputka, Drums, student; Melissa Stanton, Nanticoke, student, holding Vera Scholl; and Glenda Race, Wilkes-Barre, co-adviser BASIC Club and adjunct faculty.
