A contingent of students and staff from Misericordia University participated in Kony 2012 Move DC, a march on Washington, D.C., orchestrated by the Invisible Children organization to raise support for efforts to bring to justice Joseph Kony, the leader of the Lords Resistance Army in Uganda. The rebel leader has been charged with human rights violations for crimes against children who were abducted and forced to serve in his army. The purpose of the march was to energize grassroots efforts and encourage the American government and other nations to continue to provide military support until Kony is captured. More than 10,000 participants attended the event.
